Semi serious suggestion but how about we kick England out and the rest of us stay as GB/UK?

I was thinking Celtonia for a name…

One of the best things about this is that we wouldn’t even have to change the sign on the other side of the Severn Bridge

Where in Wales are you? I think it really does depend on what part of Wales…some opinions are polar apart depending on where in Wales they are. I grew up in Brynmawr, ex-miner’s valley town where there very much is a Welsh pride and with this lockdown and how different Wales and England has made decisions has widened the gap a little between the countries. Some people I know from the past on Facebook and writing ‘don’t come here you don’t belong’ sort of thing during Covid! I think if anything this pandemic will make more Welsh people want to become independant.

This I think. When taking demographic info for work, I’m always struck how people almost always describe themselves as e.g. ‘White Welsh’ compared to ‘White British’ as would be recorded in England. I think that there has been a tendency to take the union for granted in England and assume that other parts of the UK largely hold the same view.

There was quite a lot going on locally to engage people in discussions around independence during the last election. Whilst my family are welsh, have only been living here myself for two years. Would be interested to know how that compared to previous elections

One of my professors is a bit of a polling expert and released his newest findings today, the public appetite for independence is still far lacking from where it needs to be

But it’s very clear the devolved government is really valued, and trusted a lot more than the UK gov particularly on the covid issue (even with the firebreak)

Some more of his findings here:

Aye. Always jumps out at me when there’s White Welsh or White Scottish option for ethnicity, and that if you don’t choose that, it’s Other White British. Feels like there’s an inbuilt skew into that. Ain’t no way I am (as a white guy living in Scotland, but born in England) gonna put that I’m ethnically Scottish. Which makes me somewhat “British rather than Scottish”. Which is a bit hmmm, particularly in certain contexts. All a bit of a mongrel minefield but if there’s a question on ethnic group it probably ought to be paired with one on identity as well, to give context.

What the hell even is Welsh, Scottish or English ethnicity? Even White British ethnicity is pushing it, imhotbftbh.

Bit more on it here…

I’m a white English-born person with a Welsh-speaking Welsh grandparent who has lived in Wales for 16 years - I put white Welsh (really looking forward to 2022 when I’ll have finally lived here longer than in England)

I really wish I was more informed about this. I never really know where to look for impartial views… If anyone can recommend any reading material that would be great. Maybe @Ruffers or @GoFasterStripes?
