I suspect part of the problem here is that it’s far from accepted at the moment that inequality is actually a problem in and of itself - I think there’s a wide perception that most poor people actually have enough to get by and so they don’t deserve state intervention.

Obviously it’s a rather rough, hypothetical extrapolation, but be thankful that France doesn’t have the godawful electoral college system

I see they replaced Le Pen as the FN leader with a holocaust denier

Oh wait, this is apparently yesterday’s news

they’re now replacing Le Pen’s replacement with this guy

meanwhile 29 media bodies are making an official joint protest against Le Pen & the FN for ‘obstructing the freedom of the press’

Aren’t general elections fun?

Steeeeve!!!

Macron projected to win, with around 65% of the vote. That share for Le Pen is around 35% too high but it’ll do.

Was concerned with the abstentions and the hacking but I think he outperformed expectations in the end (saw him at around 60:40 on Friday).

All the opinion polls which had him getting 60% in the run up to this factored in abstentions. I think that aspect was played up somewhat by the press desperate for a close contest

Really interested to hear the vote blanc result.
