Last night I went for a burger with two people I now consider friends in Nijmegen. It’s been a while since I’ve made like ‘actual’ friends so it felt really good. As in, I’ve interacted, worked with, collaborated with lots of people over the last few years, but it’s not the same thing. This was just talking about stupid shit and it made me realise I’d missed it.

Tonight got a show in Amsterdam which I’m quite-excited (little nervous) for. It’s a satirical / late-night format, so I’ve been listening to the BBC global news podcast all week. I don’t really know anything though, but hope to do well by just being an idiot.

Nijmegen is almost ready for De Vierdaagse and it’s a sight to behold. Streets are closed, stages, seats and bandstands all over the city, it’s gonna be amazing. To say I’m excited is an understatement. Two of my all time dogs from the UK arrive tomorrow morning, and I’ve got the week off to basically bum about with them, and it’s gonna be amazing. They like soccer though, so it does mean I’ll have to watch those last two games of the World Cup, but que sera sera.

Man, I keep meaning to get a Dominion big box. People who are all “oh but it’s so dry, there are other games that use the mechanic as part of something else” miss the point that the pure dry mechanical nature of it is EXACTLY why it’s so good!

I’m not really selling it for anyone else reading this, am I.

Yeah, people moan that the theme isn’t connected to the mechanics or whatever. Shut up, nerd, I’m trying to figure out what combination of things is going to be more points than just buying money all game.

Morning.

Date last night was pretty good, but found it difficult to gauge if she was interested. She’s away on holiday for 2 weeks so I guess I’ll only know for sure when she gets back. My current pattern is to be interested enough for a 2nd date, then decide I’m not that interested, really hope I can break out of that pattern soon and get to the crucial 3rd date stage

Watching tdf highlights from yesterday, waiting for builders to arrive. Going to the office after that. Gonna have a good lunch at the street food place.

My eldest daughter doesn’t seem to want to come on hols with the rest of us this year. I was the same at her age but it’s still made me a bit sad.

Working from WFH.
In-laws are staying - the TV encouraged them to have some plans to get out the house today to leave me in peace, so I’m really hoping that happens…

Morning folks. Day 2 of my four days off today. Been roped in to help decorate the venue for my sister’s wedding reception tomorrow (‘we might need someone tall to put stuff up’) then will be small-talking with various incoming relatives and family friends. My parents are doing a buffet later though. Fucking love a buffet and this one will include both lobster, and Mrs Funk’s brownies so will be extra good. Going to have to limit my boozing though in readiness for the wedding tomorrow, nobody wants to see me vomit in a church, least of all me.
