Fucksake. Didn’t realise it was out yesterday. Malamore is brilliant. (Again. Seeing them at Rough Trade East next week.) I thought the album was out next week too. Thanks for the heads up.

Just on the last track now. Wonderful stuff - at times, a glorious mix between BJM (Anton Newcombe produced) and Serge in his prime, with some great guests, VU/60’s pop vibe. First album I have really taken an immediate like to this year. Welcome, 2018. (Finally.)

Guess my weekend is catching up on the back catalogue. Enjoy them at Rough Trade East.

I knew it reminded me of something, just couldn’t place it.

What a stacked day! So much new shit to get my teeth into.

So far I’ve only got round to The Go! Team and I think I like it a lot. Sounds more like their earlier albums than the straight up Indie pop ‘Scene Between’ like the continuing marching band vibe across a lot of the songs.

The Answers No might be my new fav Go! Team song, at least for now.

Tuneyards album is great - she has walked the line of keeping her distinctiveness whilst getting a bit easier to listen to really well in my view

I gave this a skim listen. Didn’t grab me but loved their previous two albums and have tickets for them live. Definitely will give it repeat listens. Hopefully, it gets better.

I was underwhelmed first listen but found myself growing to like the sound more as the album went on, hopefully it’s a grower :v:

From the first couple of listens Tune-Yards sounds like a winner to me :+1:t2::+1:t2::+1:t2: Heart Attack, ABC 123 and Who Are You my early faves. As others have said it’s a really good stab at more “conventional” pop music but still keeps enough of their distinctive edge.

Not as good as Whokill but I think that might be in my top 50 of the decade so that was always going to be a tough ask.

Weirdly never stuck with Nikki Nack. Worth trying again?

@Icarus-Smicarus: thanks for the pointer in the direction of Shopping. Nice, Entertainment-era Gang of Four-ish angular sound. Another act where I will now be delving into the back catalogue.

It’s a solid back catalogue, a lot of fun live too. ‘Discovered’ them at EOTR 2 years ago and they were a lot of fun.

Had a listen to the Go Team album, quite like it! I play in a noisy band with Angela and am used to hearing her go full Kim Gordon vocally so it’s nice hearing her sing quite nice melodic parts, if a bit weird.

Will give that’s Shopping record a go too

Thanks for mentioning ‘Starcrawler’ - enjoying it mucho this afternoon.

Sin Fang, Sóley & Örvar Smárason - Team Dreams

Icelandic supergroup of sorts (Örvar is from Múm). Having a proper listen through of the album now, after listening to most of the songs as they were released each month last year. Has some really nice songs; still need to decide on the rest.
