Sorry, was expecting some sort of brutal remark. It was just some myth after one of many animals (in this case a monkey) escaped from the zoo.

There’s a famous tulip focused garden near Amsterdam that is amazing. Best one I’ve ever been to by a mile

Westonbirt Arboretum is A Great Bunch Of Trees

Do we need a separate arboretum thread? Probably.

Would we also need a separate pinetum thread? No, that would be a bit much.

this is really unfair

(sorry didn’t see the full conversation above, not wishing to drag something back up just think green spaces should be free for everyone…access to nature should be a human right)

not really a botanical garden but I love the park that’s a few streets away from me, I’m so blessed to live so close. Sometimes feel like it’s the greatest thing in my life, I can walk for 15 minutes and be amongst trees and a clear view for a while.

When I’m out in bits of nature like this it’s like a huge weight is lifted and all problems seem in perspective in a way. Will never need a big house or expensive stuff as long as I have places like this to walk around.

Parks and other haunts i walk around take on a special emotional weight and affection when I think about all the tough times they’ve helped me with or special albums I’ve heard for the first time amongst them.

Dunno why I posted this sorry

Really don’t know how this passed me by. I should really get some tree specific alerts set up on here.

It’s a really dreadful thread mate, truly fucking abysmal. You’ll bloody love it.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually been to one of the big spectacular ones but the little ones are still good.

Oxford uni have/had some dodgy investments and hold billions in assets and make hundreds of millions in profit each year, they can totes afford to open a garden up to everyone. Also find it weird that a company with their own botanical gardens couldn’t find a way to monetise it in ways other than entrance fees. Email some alumni and ask them for a few million.

It does seem odd and unjustified, particularly when the other parks and museums are free to enter. That said, I think other University botanic gardens charge as well (the University of Liverpool’s one at Ness for example, although that’s admittedly more impressive).

Always think the one in Brussels is a bit sad, surrounded now by busy roads and office towers.

I’ve only been to the Durham one. They charge too and shouldn’t. I’ve forgotten how much their yearly profit is. Somewhere around 50 million.

NICE BOTANI GARDEN

Still have never been to Kew but got the wife-o some tickets as a wee stocking filler at Christmas. Think they run out in June or something, botanical garden fans - what’s the best time to go between now and then?

it’s not botanical these days tbf
still a great gig venue
