Once we can mix again we should look at a MME board game evening.

Got a few games we play 2 player that I’d like to try at 3 or 4.

I like Scythe a lot but it’s not what it appears to be on the surface, i.e. an RTS type thing with big stompy mechs. It’s basically a game about efficient use of resources and area control. Right up my alley, obviously, but something to bear in mind.

Yes! That would be great. Can’t go full penoid as I’m not the fastest to pick up new rules but I’m trying to learn more.

yeah, I’m thinking stuff I’ve got like Letters from Whitehall, Ghost Stories, Ticket to ride.

My GF is slowly getting used to heavier stuff but we tend to go lighter end. Think the most penoid thing, I’d like to try would be Imperial Settlers.

I’d love to get a 4 or 5 strong group together regularly to do The Kings Dilemma.

Ticket to Rodeos my current level. I didn’t play any board games growing up at all so still haven’t played basics like monopoly - doesn’t sound like I’m missing much.

I’ve got Takenoko and Azul which I’m about to learn but not ideal having a 4yo opponent :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I really like Imperial Settlers, but I’d tentatively recommend the 51st State Master Set over it, even though I like IS better. 51st State came first and it’s the same kind of gameplay but everyone’s playing from a common card pool. IS is kind of hard to get into because everyone’s deck is trying to do different things in different ways, and while I prefer that overall, it makes it quite a bit harder to learn.

Also I’ve got a handful of expansions for IS and I never play them because it’s too much faff to swap cards in and out of the different decks.

There’s a roll and write Imperial Settlers game now. I haven’t looked into it but that might be a good compromise too.

I think the theme of 51st state would have put the people I’ve played with off. The cuteness of the art in IS makes it a bit more palatable to people. I don’t think the Romans and the Barbarians are that far apart that it makes it too much of an issue to start with. Once you chuck in the Japanese or the Egyptians you have a point though.

I’ve not bought a roll and write yet. Not sure which would be best for me and my gf.

We got ‘The Bloody Inn’ for Xmas and we love it. In a way it’s really frustratingly restrictive (i.e. what you can achieve on your ‘turn’), but the longer version of the game means you can try different strategies.

The character designs are image really nice too.

Good 2 player game to play with someone with a low attention span? Short rounds preferable.

Sorry delayed in responding to this, but glad Epimer got to you.

We haven’t actually played it yet haha, it has been quite daunting to set up during the end of the year, and now we have a little one I expect to play it in 5 years time or something haha.

We enjoy 7 Wonders: Duel (15-20mins), Jaipur (15-20mins), Hanamikoji (10 mins) and Patchwork (20 mins) for our 2-player games.

We finally picked-up Agricola [something mumble], the 2-player version. It’s great!

Played a couple of times with the simpleton rules that introduce basic buildings, so next play through we’re gonna add the random factor. Coos! Piggies! Horsies! SHEEPLESS! Not enough fences!

We love Suburbia here, just wish there was MORE. Flip over any tile now and we’re like yeah we know exactly what it costs, the benefits, score changes etc.
