Breaking Bad was AMC not HBO

Yeah but it was more about the process. I don’t think it’s to do with networks it’s about funding or something.

okay as youtube satire things go this is pretty good i think

It’s retro, on many levels…

When I tried to watch the first series, that’s what it looked like to me. Like Kevin Sorbo’s Hercules.

You’ve got dead eyes, mate.

(I’ve never seen Kevin Sorbo’s Hercules.)

Same thing as Xena (you must have seen some Xena).

I just went straight from reading the books with its vast scale and feats of imagination to watching the series and it felt so small and cheap and hokey in comparison. Everyone says it got loads better as it went on in terms of budget and stuff, but I don’t really have the time to find out right now.

Nah, I think Xena and Herclues were both on Channel 5, weren’t they? LOL @ watching that.

Nah, when I went to uni in 1994 I didn’t have a TV in my room, just the communal one so I watched almost nothing of note apart from whatever the guys in the flat had on. And by the time I graduated in 98 I basically watched about 3 shows aside from Buffy, mainly because I was living with mum and she watched them.

Anyway, I dunno about ‘small and cheap’. I think the first 3 seasons of the show are pretty perfect direct TV versions of the books. I mean it does lack a bit in certain scale but mostly it gets it.

but…sauron literally does nothing except swivel

They both look ridiculous tbf, one looks like yer nan in blueface and the other’s a floating eye. The night king has a body and stuff and so yes probably poses more of a physical threat but Sauron has masses of influence/lives partially in the wraith world/hypnotic powers and such that makes him far creepier (I’m guessing)
He gets proper psychedelic sometimes too look -

biggest disappointment OF MY LIFE was the end of LOTR where it was just a tower falling down and not some massive armour clad bastard.

voted sauron because i thought he was the eye
is the eye his eye?
not even sure which lotr films i’ve seen
enjoyed them though

He’s the eye.

confusing

Tbh I think that’s more the cinematic depiction of something quite intentionally vague in the books, just representing Sauron’s will/fears/thoughts. The books even have Gollum mention he has a black hand well after his body was destroyed when he lost the ring.
Man if you read into the lore it gets really very trippy, turns out he’s a magical being made of like atonal music from the great harmonies the gods were making at the creation of the world or something.

no not that.

it’s just there was a massive scary guy right at the start of part 1 and I was expecting him to return at some point.

He’s not an Eye in the books. I don’t really know why the films decided to go with that. I guess they just didn’t know how else to do it.

And I’m afraid @zxcvbnm it seem that JRRT said he wasn’t even a giant man when he took on the form of a man. Lame.
