Not sure we can know how significantly it diverges TBH. For S1 to 4 its divergence is almost minimal. Thereafter most book stuff is still in the show and the other stuff isn’t in a book so it’s hard to judge.

When they got it right it was so spot on IMO

Kind of see how the vague folklore of the far off lands, the African part etc would echo the hyperbole that British people probably had back in the 12th century or whatever
