Resi 3 - platinummed
Doom eternal - story beaten, was going to go for the plat but the trophies are glitched. Stuff like the secret encounters and collectibles are showing as missing but I’ve got them all. Bhorls to it. Also fuck multiplayer trophies
Started wasteland 3 - that’s just going to be the story, such a humongous game

Ghostbusters (Remastered) - a lot of fun. Some fairly annoying sections like the cherubs but just having the cast back together was excellent and the game itself was good.

Resident Evil 2 (original) - Did Leon A, Claire B and Hunk scenarios. After getting used to tank controls again it was very good. Still holds up for the most part. Some great set pieces.

I think the sequel, World of Illusion, was the first game I ever completed. Great game that.

Assassin’s Creed III (remastered)

First time playing one of these since rinsing the Altair and Ezio ones ages ago. Bit of an odd one but mostly enjoyed it. I liked the setting and the conceits to get you involved in all the main bits you know about the American Revolution from school. The frontier bits were cool but the two cities were a bit boring and samey. Sea combat was crap. The opening act was far too long.

It felt really unpolished, especially for a ‘remastered’ game. Loads of glitches and audio issues. The story flowed kind of weirdly too, like loads of the cutscenes were missing a scene somewhere. End of Desmond’s arc was a big load of nothing too.

Still, was reasonably enjoyable as these games are. Reckon I’ll play Black Flag at some point soon as I picked that up on sale recently, then skip ahead to one of the really pretty modern ones like Odyssey or Valhalla.

Shadow of Memories - PS2

First time replaying this in about 14 years. Still such a hidden gem of a game. Really delightful time travel murder mystery adventure. 2001 was such an amazing year for brave console games that played with the narrative/conceptual possibilities offered by new hardware.

Goofy voice acting, but a solid plot that only really works as a light adventure/puzzle game.

Graphics hold up too due to their simplicity. Clean, well animated models. No environmental clutter.

A banger. Konami used to be so good.

Tonight I completed Sonic Mania and Spider-Man

Basically only playing Animal Crossing, DOTA 2
and Slay the Spire these days, so this could be my only post in this thread.

Managed to get the platinum on both Spider-Man remastered and Miles Morales so far this year. Started them both in December but got over the line in January. Chased a lot of pigeons.

Was nice playing Miles over the Christmas period with Manhattan all snowy and festive in the game as well.

January 15th - Spiderman (PS4)

January 17th - Labo VR goggles and camera (Switch)

Had a ton of fun with this. The VR effect is blurry as hell due to the relatively low res Switch screen and long periods of play would make you feel sick, but I’m guessing that’s precisely why the games that come with this Labo kit are over in minutes and the goggles require being held up to rather than secured around your head.

The underwater camera game is great. You dive and surface by just looking where you want to go, and you’re looking for 100 or so photo opportunities. Some logical and easy, some very tricky.

Its crude, but the VR effect is great. You get good depth perception and butterflies in your stomach as you dive down, and the game comes with glasses that the AR sensor on the Joycon detects, which puts a human face on a fish for comedy purposes.

All in all, not a game you’ll get weeks of play from but it’s a really satisfying and solid hour or two build, a great mini game and it gave us a day of laughter.

Hope it works with Pokémon Snap!

Resi 3make finished. I again really enjoyed it despite leaning more towards action than scares. Could have done with being twice the length though. Would love a new Resident Evil in this style, with all the cheesiness and underground labs and stuff.

A Plague Tale next…

3make, it definitely lacked something that 2make had. Maybe it was just novelty, given it was more of the same plus a dodge mechanic. I still loved it.

My only complaints were the nemesis fights which were a bit shite. The main 2 were basically the same thing, he tries to slap you for a bit then runs around the outside of the arena but the 2nd fight there’s zombies too.

It’s also low on actual horror, which 2 had in spades. Save for Carlos’s police station visit which is nails and incredibly tense on inferno, its basically just an arcade shooter.

Great fun game!

2 had the police station. 3 was just streets and corridors

Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night

Finally got through this after having tried and bounced off it many times over the years.
It’s a good game and the sound and graphics are top notch and have aged better than most PS1 games probably from being 2d. The VO memes are still very funny.
Got the 2nd best ending it seems. The 2nd castle is a genius idea in principle but in practice a lot of it is quite superfluous and becomes a boss rush/collectathon.
Also think thees just too much going on in this game systems wise. I love classic style Castlevanias and I love Metroid games so with this being the first Metroidvania you’d think if be loving it but no. In Metroid the progress and upgrades are gear based and that’s fine, here it’s gear, items, magic, abilities, and a levelling system as well as rpg mechanics. There’s just too much and it gets in the way of fun a lot of the time imo.
The ending was a real ‘Meh!’ as well. Looked up the very best ending but if anything it’s even dumber and not much different anyway.
When things start clicking though it’s great.

So yeah found it a bit of a mixed bag. Brilliant at its best and a bit grindy, bloaty, overcomplicated and obtuse at worst.
Glad to have finally got through it.

Gone back to play some Rondo of Blood now to get some classic Castlevania and more or Richter.

Missed one article/artifact so didn’t get the platinum. Will I go back and do it? Can I be arsed?! Who knows!

A Plague Tale and Alan Wake both finished.

I really enjoyed A Plague Tale. Gameplay was a bit limited/repetitive but I enjoyed the story which kept me going. Some proper gruesome sections though.

Alan Wake is an utterly ridiculous game but I can’t help but love it. Never totally sure how serious it takes itself or whether the whole thing is a massive joke. The story is mental and I’m not 100% I understand it, but looking forward to seeing how it ties in with Control. I don’t remember it being that scary, shat myself on more than one occasion.

I have Control to replay but think I might do Dark Souls 3 next.

Resident Evil 3 (2020). Solid 3/5 that. Would have been great as DLC to 2. The idea of ever paying full price for that is a shocker

Finished Castlevania: Rondo of Blood last night.
Good classic 2d Castlevania monster mashing that. Was able to rescue/unlock Maria and can now select her as a character on replays.
Good game, would Rondo again.
