I don’t like Batman much but I really enjoyed Arkham Knight.

Imho it’s the weakest of the Arkham games by a decent stretch. But I still enjoyed it and would really like another installment at some point.

if you haven’t played it it’s worth a download for free, but I’d say it’s the worst of the Arkham games, if only because of the fucking Batmobile

Kept on meaning to post in here about finishing Arkham Knight after contemplating buying it ages ago in the thread. It was pretty good value for £10 on one of the PS Store sales but still a decent 7-8/10 game anyway. Obviously doesn’t hit the heights of Asylum - I would put it around the same level as City though.

++ I actually liked the Batmobile!? I just enjoyed tearing around Gotham doing the APC chases in a choatic fashion. And I liked the combat of chaining together combos and blowing up tanks. Don’t ask me why - it just hit the spot for me.

– Having said that, there are some vehicles which just properly slow the game down to a grinding halt. Those big tanks that you have to shoot from behind… the Cloudburst tank… the thing which Arkham Knight drives in the tunnel section… grindy rubbish,

++ The game handles side missions a lot better than Arkham City. I found that game to be overwhelming in the way it thrust side quests onto you (such as the telephone killer). Perhaps there’s too much of little consequence to do in Knight but at least you can do it at your own pace.

– Don’t make me do everything to get the ending of the game. I was a bit pissed knowing I’d have to find 200 riddles to properly finish the story. Particularly when you start the story with “This is the story of how the Batman dies” or something with those similar stakes.

– All of the villains in this game come across as proper geeks. There are no meaningful encounters or fights with any of them. They’re all pretty easily beaten. Boo.

Also think the game has problems in a directorial sense about whether it’s trying to be a game or an overwhelming cinema experience but that’s something else entirely.

i liked the batmobile but i’ve not played the other arkham games and probably never will. i’m more of a spodey-mon fan

The Batmobile was fun but using it for all the Riddler’s missions makes absolutely no sense at all and making just about every meaningful boss battle a tank fight was really frustrating. They obviously spent so much time and cash making it work that they felt the need to shoehorn it in everywhere they could. Also (big spoilers ahead) cramming the game full of the Joker despite killing him off and spending all of the promo talking up the new villain (who wasn’t even a new villain!) was so annoying. I like Hammil’s Joker as much as the next guy but give me a god damn break!

Classic case of a developer forgetting what they’re good at for me. And yet I still crave a sequel just about more than any other game.

More 3DS nonsense: the system has its own emulation built-in for MegaDrive, SNES and Game Gear (you can buy those games via eShop), and it actually runs GBA games sort-of natively:

  • The 3DS has an ARM 11 CPU and an ARM 9 co-processor, which it uses to play DS games.
  • The old DS had an ARM 9 CPU and an ARM 7 co-processor, which it used to play GBA games.
  • The GBA had an ARM 7 CPU, and whatever the old Gameboy had.

So the 3DS underclocks its ARM 9 to behave like an ARM 7! Interesting stuff, this (imo). The way to get these games in is by Virtual Console inject, so you don’t run an extra emulator but use the inbuilt one to play the games (which appear on the home screen like everything else you’ve legitimately purchased)

Anyway, point is there’s an English translation patch of Mother 3 (EarthBound 2)! Obvs this’d work in any other emulator too. Just started playing it, and it’s absolutely lovely. Always nice to see a Smash Bros character in their native habitat :+1:

This. All of this.

They must be developing another one. Can’t see DC/Warners dumping that cash cow. I - for one - would happily go for another Origins style “tales from Batmen past”.

I’m amazed Rocksteady’s next game is still under wraps after all this time. Last I heard there were rumours WB Montreal would be doing another Arkham game whilst the main company works on some kind of big online game. No concrete word on anything though. It’s been 4 years! BRING ME MY BATMAN AND/OR BATMEN, DAMN IT!

Of course. My apologies to Barbara Gordon.

Shame the Arkham games have her in as Oracle actually. Would play the hell out of a Batgirl game.

Didn’t some of the DLC have you playing as Batgirl?

Ah yeah, found it https://arkhamcity.fandom.com/wiki/Batgirl:_A_Matter_of_Family

I played it, but I don’t remember anything about it.

I dunno about the exploit, but GBA games on 3DS was a really early thing as well. I remember getting 10 of them for free back when the did the initial price drop.

Yeah the Ambassador programme (for early buyers like yourself). That was the only time GBA games have ever been officially available on the 3DS, never again since, even though the platform is there and people want to buy them!

Classic Nintendo online really

I actually bought mine about a week before the price drop officially hit because Gamestop dropped it early for some reason - got it just in time for the Ambassador programme and didn’t pay the original RRP :+1:

Oh wow, I had no idea this existed. I guess as the City DLC was all a bit short and pointless I ignored Knight’s completely. I’m guessing since it left such an impression it was about as weighty as the City stuff.

Yeah, none of it was brilliant if I remember rightly, but at that point I just wanted to punch some henchdudes so it hit the mark.

ventured into warframe’s ‘famous’ pvp mode voluntarily for the first time (because i’m that bored). got called out at the end of a match (by someone i scored more than and killed several times, coincidentally i’m sure) as “an embarrassment of a player” because i used a flamethrower. have i stumbled into some kind of forbidden meta? i asked him if he needed a hug and he quit. try hards dish out the tastiest of salt.
(m8 if you were so good at shooting a hitscan weapon you would’ve clicked on my head before i got near flame-throwing distance of you.)

that begins and ends my warframe pvp journey.
