Kept on meaning to post in here about finishing Arkham Knight after contemplating buying it ages ago in the thread. It was pretty good value for £10 on one of the PS Store sales but still a decent 7-8/10 game anyway. Obviously doesn’t hit the heights of Asylum - I would put it around the same level as City though.
++ I actually liked the Batmobile!? I just enjoyed tearing around Gotham doing the APC chases in a choatic fashion. And I liked the combat of chaining together combos and blowing up tanks. Don’t ask me why - it just hit the spot for me.
– Having said that, there are some vehicles which just properly slow the game down to a grinding halt. Those big tanks that you have to shoot from behind… the Cloudburst tank… the thing which Arkham Knight drives in the tunnel section… grindy rubbish,
++ The game handles side missions a lot better than Arkham City. I found that game to be overwhelming in the way it thrust side quests onto you (such as the telephone killer). Perhaps there’s too much of little consequence to do in Knight but at least you can do it at your own pace.
– Don’t make me do everything to get the ending of the game. I was a bit pissed knowing I’d have to find 200 riddles to properly finish the story. Particularly when you start the story with “This is the story of how the Batman dies” or something with those similar stakes.
– All of the villains in this game come across as proper geeks. There are no meaningful encounters or fights with any of them. They’re all pretty easily beaten. Boo.
Also think the game has problems in a directorial sense about whether it’s trying to be a game or an overwhelming cinema experience but that’s something else entirely.
