Persona 5 is starting to feel less like a tutorial finally (always a thing w JRPGs). I’m digging the story - it’s got that slightly we-don’t-give-a-shit weirdness that I like about FF7 and 8

Been playing this for a few hours this afternoon. Can’t work out if it’s entertaining me or boring me. Died a lot to start off with before realising that running away from things is a solid tactic. Always losing track of what crap I’ve got in my hold and where I’m supposed to be taking it.

Surprised to discover that I’m more than happy as a shill for the East India Company.

Figuring out that Persona 5 is kind of like a JRPG in Haruki Murakami world is making me like it more

Been doing it meself, and yeah died about five minutes in. On my third captain now, Specialist Dugnutt the Revolutionary. Up the Tacketies.

It’s always been a meditative experience; I’ve gained a new appreciation for games like these where you’re mainly drifting through beautiful environments delivering devil penises or whatever because that allows me to catch up on podcasts. Although this one definitely requires more engagement than Seas; the combat is both pleasingly ludicrous and swiftly lethal.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer on Football Manager:

“It’s a fantastic game, I have learned a lot about football. I have learned a lot about players, especially young talent.”

“It resembles real life, when it comes to who will be good players. They have done incredible research.”

Finally finished Trico yesterday.

Points of that game are a genuinely beautiful experience and unlike anything I’ve played. Trico is a remarkable creation and the world is incredible.

But JFC it’s frustrating. The controls and camera are absolutely dire for a game of that level and it massively impacts on the enjoyment of what could have been a masterpiece.

I’d still love to play this. Adored Ico and SotC. I’d always assumed when reading about these criticisms in reviews Trico didn’t do what you want and controlled badly deliberately, to show he’s a living entity in his own right. Ueda’s other games had tetchy controls too though.

Do you get a sense it’s designed to be that way and stop it feeling too gamey or is it just bad execution?

I loved both of those games too. SoTC is an all-time top gaming memory for me.

I would say it’s absolutely worth playing if you loved those two. The magic is still there but expect to be yelling at the screen a lot.

Re: the controls I do think it was intended to make Trico feel like a living animal, which it does manage to do quite effectively some times. It has it’s own will and you have to cajole it into doing things, which can be frustrating by itself, but makes sense.

However the frustration is compounded by a camera that often can’t quite cope with such a massive character being on screen and imprecise controls that are a hangover from the PS2 era.

Adding those to the AI of an animal that sometimes just does what it wants, and where occasionally you actually can’t make it do anything but simply have to wait until it’s scripted to behave in a certain way (but with no indication at any point that this is the case) and it really become screamingly frustrating at points.

Finished Detroit Become Human - enjoyable on the whole and poses some interesting questions. One standout moment with the reveal that Alice is an android too.

Now on Resi 2. First time I’ve played any resi ever. It’s good fun - level design reminds me of Dark Souls with the verticality and shortcuts. Terror is at the right level to be enjoyable rather than unpleasant. Could do with some ammo though…

How does it feel to be partially responsible for your clubs turn around?

Trico wasn’t too unruly for me on my playthrough! Think I had a couple instances where it was an obstinate bugger, but the technical issues were my main gripe. Like you said, when it’s working properly it’s phenomenal. Holding onto its back while it makes a huge leap is glorious!

I’m going to wade in and say I didn’t even find the limitations of Last Guardian negatively effected my experience. I liked that Trico was difficult to lead and would sometimes just turn around and jump in a different direction. Likewise the camera problems I’ve all but forgotten whereas the game I certainly haven’t. I think it’s a masterpiece and my favourite of Ueda’s games.

I got this today too  guessing it’s cos I died a couple of times the same way (knocked myself off the platform with the big container thing in the second boss fight ) and it figured (correctly) that I am shit

That is exactly where I kept dying
