Best six games of the past five years. Get them down you.

Half a good taste is better than none!

Not played it but it’s on the list. Generally I’ve heard it’s good-but-not-as good as Oxenfree. Think that would be hard to do - Oxenfree is really cool and special I think.

I always thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity because it’s a premise that could’ve had more interesting gameplay to it – but, hey, it’s an atmospheric story and the conversation system is really, really good. Hyped to keep playing.

Prey. Solid 3.5/5. I can see how some people would completely love it, but it was a bit of a wasted opportunity for me.

Very solid world building, cool story, some very well executed ideas and gameplay loops. But, as was covered above it loses focus towards the end and felt like a slog. Also agree about the ememy designs, so much of it was just fighting amorphous black blobs and they got boring to look at fast.

All that said, I had a fun time with it and it cost me a fiver, so absolutely zero complaints overall

Feel like I can add Streets of rage 4 to the completed list now I’ve beaten the game on Easy, Medium and most of Hard and unlocked most of the bonus characters. I’ll carry on playing it but my feelings towards it are set now.

I bloody love it.

I think Streets of Rage 2 is one of the few retro games I dip back into regularly. In general, whilst I nostalgically love games from the 8, 16 and 32 bit era, I seldomly want to ever revisit them. They either require the patience of a saint or have been simply bettered nowadays. But SOR2 is an exception to that rule for me.

And 4 builds on so much that it nails (the music, the way the different characters play, the dance you do with the enemies to get a window to attack in) but adds loads of new twists.

The secrets and retro characters are a nice touch for fans. The feeling of connecting those blows is more crunchy and solid than ever. The enemy variation is greater. The bosses require different strategies. I love the art design and new music too. When that track kicks in as you busy out of the jail cell is superb.

It’s the quality of life stuff I really like. Turning the base game into a Story mode but keeping Arcade Mode present for hardcore fans is great, but the risk reward scheme of the Specials and Strong attacks add whole new dimensions and combos. Even little touches like small hit windows to chain together throws (to avoid damage briefly) and being able to retrieve projectiles is a masterstroke and adds to the feeling of you being a one person army.

I’ve beaten a few levels on Hard now but watching videos on YouTube of people tackling Mania with 1 life is incredible.

All in all, a worthy sequel to an iconic series and the perfect way to both pay homage - and reboot - a dormant series.

Now Sega, do the same for Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Daytona, Sega Rally and Virtua Racing please!

Howwwww about… Alex Kidd

Gutted to find out Chris Avellone is a serial abuser and harasser. Not even slightly surprised to see the usual elements dusting off their ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ placards on social media.

The sheer volume hes had in particular and the fact he had been blacklisted from conventions is proving someone guilty if you ask me. It’s just the people who knew told no one and allowed this to continue.

Yes, from what I’m reading about it now this seems to have been something widely known about him in the industry. Which raises the question why it fell to his victims to speak out about it.

Probably people protecting their careers and the fact this toxic behaviour is seemingly encouraged at open bars across conferences.

Pax in particular sounds heinous for this shit

A convention organized by the Penny Arcade pricks, a MeToo petri dish? Color me surprised.

One of the first games I ever owned. And one of the first I would have forcibly destroyed were it not EMBEDDED IN THE BLOODY SYSTEM.

Then BoY! Have I got a game for y… oh

I thought I was done with Rouge Likes for good but Noita is really doing a lot for me.

Basically its a game where you gotta keep on going down - on the way you pick up wands, spells and potions/elements. You can combine spells on your wand which can make for some really outstandingly OP and suicidal projecticle combos. I had one shooting out metal shurikens that exploded on impact and shot shotgun shells in 3 or 4 directions… as your projectile hurt you it was less than ideal

Drank a potion and tunred into a turrett. Whenever you shoot enermies they spew liquid everwhere which reaacts with projectiles, so if you shoot a metal enermy it’ll start bleeding oil and if you’re using fire then… wellllll

Its really dynamic and really fun to play… its kinda awesome?>

Not me but this is Noita in a nutshell

It’s a tenner on Steam today. Getting proper Worms vibes from that last one.

What if I told you that a skater got approached to

licence his likeness for a Skate MOBILE game shortly before this anouncement

I mean I’m sure they wint be daft enough to announce that game in that way but… who knows :eyes:

It’s probably Skate 4, but they’ve not said anything other than New Skate though so I’m still super sceptical.

Fucking bought it yesterday

It’s really good, itll be in your wheelhouse.
