Just lost an entire night to Velheim (6hrs)

It’s nails the atmosphere - its really relaxing! Had to stop myself from spending the entire night lighting up the path to Mt. Steve Stone

It’s like a really methodical and relaxing Minecraft - hunting is really satisfying! Building could use work but the world is just a joy to be in

We haven’t really even pursued the RPG/Combat stuff yet XD just been happy building a tiny village

We realised that the torches have a finite life and need to be refuelled with resin but they seem to last a while

Re: FFVIII I am on disk 3 at the point of attacking the Lunatic Pandora. Followed a guide on gamefaqs so i’m pretty overpowered now. Looking forward to bringing the thunder on Seifer and Ultemicia. Some reflections so far:

  • The story is just absolute bobbins. It’s all over the shop - sometimes stuff happens and you have no idea why - the dialogue just doesn’t even try to explain it. Other times they try to explain it but in doing so demonstrate how mad and convoluted it is and in fact at various points people tell you that what is going on is weird and stupid.

  • Despite all the mad shit happening, the characters (other than Squall and Rinoa at times maybe) don’t ever seem to be that worried about what is going on or if they will survive. Even in the midst of being attacked by the other Garden they are still mucking around trying to get a copy of Squall’s ring or whatever.

  • The actual business of playing the game and especially preparing for and conducting battles still holds up. I’ve enjoyed gathering all the stuff I need, leveling the characters up, using the GF abilities etc. Will never get tired of casting Aura and taking enemies to school with Squall’s Renzokuken.

  • While Triple Triad is good fun in its own right and I am enjoying using it it to exploit the ability to mod cards, the whole business with how the rules work is convoluted and trying to move the Queen of Cards around and sort out some of the bizarre rules in some regions is painful. The Random and Plus rules seem to only be there to put the computer at a massive advantage.
