I’m really enjoying the multiplayer now, haven’t gone back to the campaign yet.

I’ve found that if I hang back a bit I can actually do quite well. Everyone is so busy racing around that you can actually spot people on the map pretty easily if you just have a quick breather.

There’s definitely set ups that lend themselves to people without a lot of experience. I use the grapple hook (cos its fun) and the CAR gun. My gun is set up to fire whilst running, so I often get the drop on people, but I shit the bed as soon as I need any degree of accuracy.

There’s some really obvious stuff which gives away that I’m not used to playing FPS. Probably use one grenade every three games.

I’m absolutely loving BF1. Definitely the best BF they’ve done. You can tell all the maps were made for the operations mode though, that is bloody amazing.

Yeah it is cracking, there is a map next to the coast with a castle sort of thing at one side which is my favourite one.

I absolutely love the forest one on operations. It’s awesome. I honestly feel like the only real problem with the game is lack of guns and the progression to get them. If you put that to one side though you have some wonderfully drama filled experiences.

I feel funny about my inability to get into MGSV - loved 1-3 (not really played 4 either). I liked the linearness of them and the excellent boss fights. I don’t think this game in an open world if for me? It’s also fucking really long. I seem to be… 3% complete. Does it become a bit more narrative driven? Just feel like it’s really patchy and repetative doing little ten minute missions and side ops and stuff.

Yeah, I gave up really quickly, the ability to do the missions multiple different ways is great but it’s too open for me, I think the little single-level demo type thing that came out before it is much more enjoyable frankly. (Also the storyline is pure bollocks, absolute fucking nonsense)

Coming to the end of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided now, I’ve enjoyed it but it’s got a bit repetitive in the latter stages and now I’ve got the best augmentations it means you have to think about your approach a lot less.

Hoping Watch Dogs 2 gets some good reviews as I fancy getting cracking on that when it comes out.

Convinced a couple of pals to get Bloodborne when it was on sale and now I’m enjoying it again through their experiences. Started a new character (arcane build) so that I could be summoned by them if they struggled, and now I just want to play the whole thing again. So good. I really should be getting through my other games though.

DO IT

Also been thinking of playing back through with an arcane build. Possibly most fun on NG+ when you can use the lumenflower head with the kos parasite?

That’s my end goal, I think. To become an actual eldritch monster from beyond.

Thought it would be tough early on as there aren’t any spells available at this stage but obviously fire damage scales with arcane. I’ve firebombed the shit out of all the bosses thus far, and once I got the flamesprayer upgraded some it’s been game over for beasts.

I think far too many games are open world these days. The most fun I’ve had playing a game this year was probably with Ratchet and Clank. There’s a lot to be said for really well designed linear play.

Yeah, I theoretically love the freedom of open-world but it seems to be the default these days and it doesn’t add anything a lot of the time.

Main problem I have with them is that open world games are so long, and without the gameplay to justify it. In pretty much every one I get halfway through and then just stop doing side stuff and burn through the main story. Even though I loved Red Dead Redemption, that Mexico part dragged on forever. In Shadow of Mordor, I ended up doing too much side stuff and being ridiculously overpowered by halfway through the game, and the rest of it became a monotonous slog as a result. Really enjoyed the first few hours though.

I suppose it takes so long to build the world they have to fill it out with stuff, but I’ve never played one that held my attention start to finish. Obviously the highs are quite high though!

I think it says a lot that gears of war, titanfall, call of duty and battlefield 1 are getting praise for their single player. There is a real thirst for a tight 8 hour campaign with the added value in a well designed multi-player mode as opposed to just having 40 hours of filler to pad out the 10hours of content.

A billion times this, too often open world just leaves you in a sprawling, uninspiring identikit city with nothing to do except trudge joylessly for two miles to the mission start point.

Best example of this is Arkham Asylum vs Arkham City. Asylum was a masterpiece, City just dull.

I use R/PS4 for my games news, as it generally is faster than most outlets at breaking stuff and is good for deals. Sometimes I read comment threads. It makes me want to kill myself.

Christ these 'kin basement dwellers.

Really good response from PC Gamer. Such an odd sense of entitlement from these people.

Was going to say, PC Gamer journos coming across really well there. I haven’t read any of their content in over a decade now, but I may well go back and dip in every now and again given the general level of their comments there.

If that’s representative of /r/pcgaming then it’s a toxic environment - it feels more like /b/ than most reddit communities I’ve dipped into to me.
