My brother runs a cafe which employs a bunch of sixth formers for weekend work, in a middle class town, and he says all the kids have basically forgone drinking in favour of pills, because drinking is just too expensive for the return it gets you.
Find it kind of bizarre that these Football Alliance lads are being described as poor or ok the breadline, chances are most of them earn decent money which is why they can indulge these “hobbies”.
