Some of my best friends have fake turf!

(But I hate them now and don’t talk to them any more.)

As promised yesterday, latest progress photos:

Homemade raised bed veg patch with bench. Made on Saturday, waterproofed and planted on Sunday.

Now with additional planting, a half built cabin (they didn’t send the gable, so we’ve had to stop for now, hence the groundsheet over the roof) and a wooden edge built for the paths.

That looks great! Like raised beds. Looks like you could perch on that and enjoy maybe a cigarette or something.

That’s the idea (although we’re both non smokers, so more likely to be a beer while reading or something). Also useful as a table when planting etc.

This is whetting my appetite for the spring round of garden shows: Chelsea and Hampton Court up soon. Loads of colingardens.

Me too only…

chickens require a massive coop, and ours would have to be very strongly protected against foxes. Also you need to get someone to look after them when you’re away.

So cba.

Plus it’s really hard to stop it becoming overrun with mice. .

I have an allotment in Harwich … Does that count?

More or less finished barring a few small bits and pieces

Also built our own bench because we couldn’t find a good priced option for the area we wanted…

My girlfriend loves gardening and is actually a garden designer. So I like looking out onto our garden and waving at her as she works. I will carry heavy stuff about and helped build our pergola at the top, so there is that.

Hot Tub!

Are you planting pampas grass in the front garden, too?

Will the shed/summerhouse be overlooking your neighbours at all?

I see you’ve enhanced my bench idea with a power supply - I approve!

If I can do that up there ^ while depressed, you can achieve your own dreams.

Are you sure that you’re not trying to cram too much into that space? It might feel very cluttered with all that in there. If you want a border, for privacy, it should be at least 1.2m wide.

Digging out a hot tub is a very, very tough job. Don’t forget that you are going to have to get power to it, and you’ll want to think about how to drain it (which needs to be done a couple of times a year). It might be better to locate it closer to the house on a concrete platform (this also makes it less of a dash in the cold in your bathers when you head out).

Also makes it easier to get rid of when you get sick of it/ want to sell the house.

Thing about hot tubs is people fall in two camps.

You’re in camp one: the people who would consider having one in their garden, I’m in camp two: the people who would never have one in their garden. The two sides have no salient advice to give to each other.
