EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARIDOOS?!

I built a clone of this, it’s a bit limited by being single reprat, although i think there’s ways around that. Makes so stupid noises.

I’m pretty sure the HX stomp would do what you want and that is £399 (plus think of the sheer amount of extra effects) the HXFX probably does it to and that is a bit cheaper (no amp sims, but has two FX loops rather than the one of the stomp). they have half the DSP of a full helix so only 2 paths rather than the 4 of a helix, but they would still be enough to process the daw on a separate path. you could have most of your pedals before your amp, amp out into the helix in (assume you still record from your amp FX send) could then add more helix effects to the amp signal and add and IR and send it to computer, while on a second path have the DAW backing track come in be send through helix effects or routed out and back through external pedals in an FX loop. You might even be able to have your arturia synth go through it at the same time, I know i’ve had my roland synth and DAW tracks all go through my helix even though that seems to break the two interface rule (dont think I set up an aggregate) think my DAW just took the synth over USB and then routed it to USB 3/4 along with the software instruments.

not 100% sure the HX stomp and HXFX can do all this stuff, but pretty sure

I think this is the answer really and I’m dragging my feet because it’s the least sexy option. Didn’t realise the Focusrite 8i6 is only £220, I had double that in mind for some reason. If I got even £80 for my 2i2 then I can probably stomach that.

checked the stomp manual and it does. final added bonus: if you own a helix product you can get 75% off the helix native software (reduced by a further 30% if you time it right) that gives you all of the effects to play around with as a plugins to your daw, meaning the hardware almost pays for itself

this concludes my line 6 shilling for the evening

I think I say this a lot, but if you’ve got access to an ac.uk email address you can get 25% of literally everything on the official Focusrite/Novation site. Including the refurbished stuff.

reassuring when even these youtube guitar prodigies with really high end jazzmasters’ jazzmasters still sound a bit weak and plinky sounding

trying to gauge interest to see if anyone’s interested in splitting a subscription for this

only really interested in the albini, joe baresi, chris lord alge ones so can’t really justify the $300 but might be doable between a few people. anyone?

I have a free subscription to this… meaning I’m on the mailing list and now and again they post one that doesn’t cost to watch

Signed up after they posted the Phillipe Zdar one to commemorate him after he passed away. It’s an amazing mix tutorial (he breaks down and recreates Phoenix’s Listomania) but more than this it’s Zdar’s whole mixing philosophy that’s so great. Such a bon viveur too RIP

Interesting that the thumbnail for the video is a studio I’ve recorded in

Anyway, I might be up for splitting a log in …but not if there’s only 2 of us. Needs like 10 of us really

yeah defo, got one other person who’s interested if we can get enough people in. think 10 might be a tall order tho tbh especially without going to randoms who might just change the password and be a dick.

that’s no way to talk about @Epimer

tempted to get one of these, they are pretty old but i’d not seen them before. bit stupid now i’ve got an actual 12 string, but like the idea of being able to get the 12 string sound out of any, and more playable, guitars

Managed to dull the colour of these a lot. Put them in a warm mug of strong coffee for 24 hours or so, left to dry and then washed them off - looks like they warped very slightly, but they’re nicely aged cream now. Maybe it’ll come off the more I use them, but currently seems like a success
