So I just won a 2014 Mexican Standard Strat on a pawnbroker’s auction for about £350

so now I’m trying to buy this

and they don’t deliver to Sweden :sob:

anyone got any tips for places to get these parts & a black scratchplate?

I was going to change the pickups in my mini strat, but then realised I quite like them (hate to admit it but think it is my best sounding guitar), and they must be the cheapest pickups there are, so always worth trying the stock ones first I reckon

It’s just that there’s someone selling a set of Abigail Ybarra hand wound CS’69 pups near me for about half the price that they retail new for (though when I’ve looked at youtube comparisons I think I prefer the more spanky Texas specials)

We’ll see how the Mex ones are first

You’ll need the soldering iron anyway if the bridge pickup isn’t wired to a tone control yet

Yeah, soldering pickups is pretty entry level soldering though it might be an idea to hand the Jag & the Strat with all the parts to a good guitar tech to do the whole thing and set them both up properly

I got my Johnny Marr bridge from that reverb sellers normal site, only place i’ve seen them, was about £100, have tried staytrem twice but not got on with them

So this Mexican strat has a very New Wave/post punk sound, tons of bite but not much body

Sounding good though once I took the dead strings off it and set the floating tremolo right (more or less)

It’ll be just the ticket once it has the Texas Specials in, the all black hardware on and a proper set up

Wish I could post a video somewhere that wasn’t yt or ig

I’ve started running the trem on mine non floating, took some getting used to but I think I prefer it

The previous owner had this one blocked off really wrong though, like you could pull the pitch up an nearly an octave but it was block so you couldn’t drop pitch and the whole bridge assembly was at an absurd angle with the tremolo arm resting on the pickguard when parallel with the strings. You haven’t got that have you?

No, i slackened the springs so that the back of the trem sits on the body, so I can drop the pitch but not raise it. No absurd angles required
