Gentlemen's clubs

Anyone a member/been to one?

Do you think you’d have a good time hanging out with these lads?

Weird that judges still wear those wigs isn’t it.

A real who’s who of [redacted]

Seem like a bunch of dorks to me

“Ooh no women allowed”

Sounds to me like they all need a wedgying

Must admit I wasn’t expecting to see Roy Hodgson on the list

Terminology is weird isn’t it

  • Gentlemen’s Club i.e. old poshos - never been
  • “Gentlemen’s Club” i.e. lap dancing club - never been
  • Working Men’s Club i.e. skittles, darts and cheap beer - used to go to one in Cardiff after work on a Friday.

Yeah.

Nice place for old boys (and girls) to get out of the rain, read the paper and enjoy a cheap drink poured by a bolshie person from around the corner? Good.

Opulent place for old boys (only) to take the Times, discuss the best ways to avoid taxes and destabilise governments (including your own) and enjoy a cheap drink brought by s subservient member of a lower social order? Bad.

Like golf clubs only with a bit more money

I should add that the working men’s club we went to allowed all genders. And the beer was dangerously cheap.

Got that but have edited accordingly.

The slow death of the working man’s club is a national tragedy.

I’ve been to clubs where there are a lot of gentlemen, if you catch my drift

I’ll bet those judges got freebies so the other members get private access to them

Never been a member of one because it’s silly money, but through work and friends have had dinner at:

The Garrick
The East India
The RAC
The O&C

The Garrick was very plush. Food was excellent.

East India feels the most like a “club” in that it’s kind of weird and the place feels a bit posh but also quite tatty. Like staying with an eccentric marquis in his ramshackle house.

RAC felt a bit like a nice hotel. Has a pool though.

O&C was pretty bland.

Really enjoying the “Sending little Timmy to school for his first World Book Day!” vibes of this one.
