Gigs of the year 2018

Don’t think Ive seen a thread of shows of the year. So here’s one. My top 10 shows would go something like this. Yours?

  1. Slim Cessna’s Auto Club @ Omeara (and also at Red Rooster festival)
  2. Julien Baker @ Shepherd’s Bush Empire
  3. Kanda Bongo Man @ Reading South Street
  4. Cattle @ Supersonic
  5. Nils Frahm @ Bristol COlston Hall
  6. Josh Pearson @ Sea Change Festival
  7. Titus Andronicus @ St Pants Old Church
  8. Wave PIctures @ Oxford Jericho
  9. Big Lad @ Reading Dot Dot Bash
  10. BCUC @ WOMAD

Honourable mentions to show from Pigs x 7, Angel Olsen and Lubomyr Melnyk

Biggest disappointments were probably GNOD at Ritual Union festival in Oxford (was all geared up for some massive riff action but ended up with some tedious laptop twiddling) and Rival Consoles @ Sea Change (great album, but found the live show really lacklustre).

Also disappointed I never got to see Oh Sees this year, came close a couple of times before other commitments took over.

both amazing. Can’t really be cba with gigs nowadays unless they involve Low or YLT

There’s only three bands I will always go and see these days. Low and YLT are two of them.

Little Mix - Sussex County Cricket Ground.

My only gig this year. I live overlooking the cricket ground, so i didnt really have any choice in the matter. Good show though, better than Olly Murs last year. Fireworks at the end were good too.

David Byrne by a long way.

Honourable mentions for Yo La Tengo, Teenage Fanclub and Pharoahe Monch though.

I’ve still got a couple of gigs left before the end of the year, but I can’t see them getting close to David Byrne (Mudhoney, Orbital and, erm, Def Leppard)

Loads of great gigs this year after a few years of meh.

Bob Log III @ Opium, Edinburgh
A Hawk And A Hacksaw @ Summerhall, Edinburgh
