Got into horrendous eating habits at the end of last year (not helped by Ben and Jerry’s being half price in the Tesco Express next door to work for a few months…), so have been cutting down on eating shit, helped by not being in work much so I can cook things for all different meals.
I’m trying to make it not feel like a diet - so I’ll still eat a slice of cake if one is offered to me (but I find I’m only having one or two treats a week plus a takeaway/ready meal on Saturdays), and am not forcing myself to try and get into habits that I’m blatantly never going to stick with (vegetable sticks are never going to be my thing). Eating lots of egg-based things for breakfast or lunch, cooking lots of vegetarian or pescatarian dishes for dinner when I do dinner, cutting down on the amount of rice that I have with my dinner. When I want a sweet treat, I have yoghurt with berries in - sure, there’s sugar in it, but it’s more nutritious than a bar of chocolate. The most effective thing really is to get into a habit of saying ‘no’ to myself and half-arsed cravings. No idea if I’ve lost any weight yet and I don’t really feel better in myself which I was hoping to, but I’m not moping around the house desperate for pizza, which can only be a good thing long term, and I’ve made some really delicious meals (butter paneer masala, wow).
Need to start working on portion control and start thinking about what exercise I do that I can afford to do, enjoy and get to easily; hoping the gym 5 mins away from me isn’t too expensive so I can just use the cycling machine. I really bloody wish my town council had voted to build a swimming pool instead of a running track though
