Ridiculous fun energy in the WH field that night, Sarah’s drumming is the best thing, and when All My Friends outroed it was a proper knee buckler, so fucking good

It was the Syrian Natinal Orchestra coming out for White Flag and tuning up, which it was quite clear they had to do, for 5 minutes which made it lose all momentum. Looking back on it and watching it, it is brilliant apart from Pirate Jet something at the time you didn’t realise how amazing it was like Lou Reed is no longer with us and Bobby Womack but, now it genuinely was amazing if you think about it. If only Del the Funky Homosapien was there.

Yeah, at least they managed to get Snoop there for Clint Eastwood to send everyone home happy.

Just come up on my recommendation on youtube. I wouldn’t normally post this sort of shit but at 2:30 something really funny happens.

Janelle Monae time. 2011! How wasn’t she massive after this. Last 3 tracks are unreal.

Always forget the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers who has just left used to play with PJ Harvey and Gnarles Barkley

I believe the album briefly charted after this broadcast. But that was about it

It’s still one of the best gigs i’ve ever attended.

About 10 of my would-have-been camp-mates and I watched the Orbital 2010 set on sync at headliner time last night.

Holy shit, that was one hell of a set. The ramped up coda of SATAN was…satanic.

I was in that virtual crowd last night too! Would love to have seen that in the flesh. Amazing set.

I told myself that I would pretty much let all of the online/TV stuff pass me by. Not in a belligerent way, just a coping mechanism. I got sucked into the camp WhatsApp chat last night. They were all watching Bey after Elbow and I started watching Orbital, as Beyoncé has nothing for me. Within 10 minutes around 10 of them had jumped onto the Hartnoll Express, I paused, we did a time check 3,2,1 countdown, and the next 90 minutes was blissful, and just about managed to lift my mild melancholy at not being there.

2021 is going to be the party of parties…

Much the same. I told myself I wouldn’t be watching any but couldn’t resist. Very bittersweet viewing!

Unfortunately I didn’t get a ticket for this/next year  first time in five years I’ve missed out. Our group of six was the only one to not get in. All the other groups (5x6) did. Absolutely devastated tbh. Let’s hope it defo is on next year because the idea of probably not being able to go for another three years is not something I want to consider.

Apart from Beyonce, when was the last time another headliner actually released good music after headlining? The only other ones I can think of is Kanye releasing The Life Of Pablo, but that’s definitely where the rot set in for him, and Arctic Monkeys released Tranquility Base but that’s really only the same level of three stars perfectly fine rock music that all their stuff is.

Oh I forgot Kanye made Kids See Ghosts, which is incredible.

That. Is. Shit.

We were 5 x 6 as well. It was all over. Four groups got. Not mine. Mine contains ALL of the hard work organisers, so it was typical.

Sold Out sign came up. We carried on, obviously, but with increasingly low expectations. Despair sets in.

My phone rings. One of the other guys wants my card details for payment…? He’s sitting outside a cafe just outside Rome. On his phone. On Italian 3G!!! I give him the details. My heart rate is at about 190bpm.

He posts in the WhatsApp. He got them. It is now at least 5 mins post-sold out sign.

No feeling like it…

Sorry about you, bud. I’m committed in the sale/resales, but fingers crossed for you.

Oh, man. What a rush. Congrats! I reckon my heart rate might’ve ticked over to 191 when I got through a few years ago with 4G on my phone. Possibly the most pressure I’ve ever felt?
Thanks for the good wishes haha. The thing is… my brother’s got a ticket for next year. He’s never been before. Registered initially, then decided he couldn’t go, then changed his mind about 20 mins before sale on the Sunday morning. Then promptly got in with one of the other groups that he’d been added to at the last minute.
I’m happy for him obviously, want him to go, and not jealous. But he feels terrible about it. Wants me to be going instead. And has now found out his second child is due to be born at the beginning of next year. Now I’m just wondering how similar we look…

A really good question! Actually not that many when you work through it.

Obvious ones that spring to mind - Pulp headlined before either different class or this is hardcore were released, Bowie headlined before (a good while later) coming back with next day and then black star.

Funny that you have to go back a good 20 years to find enough that you can no longer count them on one hand.

I think Coldplay will have headlined in the early 00s and then come back with Viva La Vida?

Actually just released Stormzy didn’t release HITH until after his set this year. So in the last like 15 years only Beyonce, Kanye West and Stormzy have managed to still be good afterwards (even tho Kanye has largely gone to absolute shit)… That’s the three acts that upset the gammon element the most lmaoooo

I’ve no idea why I thought it was included and can’t find it anywhere :frowning:
