Go on then, rank them

rank the main UK supermarkets.

Morrisons

Sainsburys
Aldi
Tesco
Waitrose
Asda

Morrison’s
Sainsbo’s

Lidl
Booths (Waitrose sub)
Tesco

Never lived near a Lidl so probably not getting a fair shake here, but that’s how I see it

Waitrose >>>>>>>>>>>> Aldi > Sainsbury’s > Co-op > Lidl > Tesco

No Morrison or Asda in central London.

Actually fuck swap Booths and Asda, Booths has massive garlic

This is why I have ranked Aldi lower than may be considered usual.

Never really go to Aldli, so can’t judge.

Side question: what’s the status of B&M?

Also, I put Waitrose at the top because I used to live 5 minutes walk from one, and on Tuesday (or maybe Wednesday?) evenings I’d walk in and buy the yellow sticker stuff that was 90% off and dine like a king on slightly turned organic carrots, and quiches, and lemon curds and stuff. Good times.

Definitely not a supermarket before you try anything weird.

I’ve never been in a Waitrose.

Understood.

Don’t really count co-op as a supermarket for some reason. More of a convenience store imo.

Biggest shop in my town, and they have their own delivery service, but for some reason they’ve stopped stocking their own brand oat milk. Absolute shambles.

Could swap round Sainsburys and Aldi maybe, otherwise it’s pretty clear cut

Co-op

  • Supermarket
  • Convenience store

The local one has a food section that includes bread, milk, orange juice, various chilled proteins, spices, pulses, the lot. It’s almost like a super-Lidl where the middle aisles are most of the shop with the groceries tacked on.

There are a few supermarket size ones but there aren’t many of them. That one at Trago Mills that looks like a castle and there’s one in Royton but I’m struggling to think of anymore.

Oh I think there is one near/in Southwell

There’s one in Bath that is supermarket-sized but I just don’t class it as such for some reason. Maybe cause round here they’re mostly just confined to petrol stations.

Tesco needs to be at the bottom because you can’t get anything on discount unless you have a clubcard which should be illegal
