Know what you mean, but sometimes you just need to get over it. Would you sack off a mates wedding if it was in a church?

Guarantee she wasn’t. People take stuff like that so personally, rightly or wrongly. Especially new parents. X2 if they’re God bothering ones.

No, and in fact those are the times I’ve generally been there for a ceremony but the point is that being a Godparent requires you actually make a ‘pledge’ (dunno what the technical term is?) regarding Christian beliefs. Attending a ceremony is different to actually placing yourself in the situation where you’re lying?

Everyone does, as part of the ceremony.

For the record, I’m not into God or anything. Just from an Irish family and made to go until I had a choice in the matter. I think it’s all bollocks. But some people are into it, so I’ll go with the flow for them.

this is literally why my gf’s nephew got baptised last year. hes 11 and couldnt be less arsed about getting baptised, but now his mam’s applied to get him in the local catholic school he doesnt want to go there coz theres another school 10 mins walk from his house that all his mates are going to. fair play to him

There’s a bit in Catholic weddings where they address the crowd… I think. Not been to a Catholic wedding in years. I guess you could just not answer, or cross your fingers! Going off on a tangent here. Point was that your mates probably won’t ask you to do anything for their kid again, so you’ve technically dodged two bullets.
