everybody fucked that by piling on me, impossible to assume anything people say to me is in good faith now and not some defence of wanting to earn tonnes of money

Dick Van Dyke still seems pretty sound.

I’m really enjoying it, stick with it. Haters gonna hate

I applied for a job that used my technical background that I thought would be interesting, on a starting salary of £28,000. After doing the foundation qualifications (funded by work) I got a pay rise to £32k I think, which was increased to £35k or so over four years.

After then I’d done the qualifications I need to do to be legally allowed to do my job by the regulator, so when I moved job my pay was around £55k. Since then I’ve had annual pay rises and bonuses each year, and one £10k pay rise because they thought my wage was below market rate for my experience. My base pay now is £72k, and last year the bonus was around £10k.

I haven’t asked for any pay rises or tried to negotiate any of these amounts.

I’m not defending any of this, it all seems completely absurd to me.

Yeah, like that he came back to be the old bank owner in new Mary Poppins (not seen it, just seen him dancing on the desk)

No one piled on you, they were responding to your points seriously and giving you their time to discuss your ideas. Nobody thinks your thick, nobody hates the poor. I think you know this, honestly.

can’t you say no and suggest they pay some people who are earning less in your organisation more?

yeah people don’t hate the poor but a lot of people will find a way to justify whatever they earn or do as being fine in any situation, look at how mad some people are that I think celebs and doctors and the like being rich is wrong! Then it gets to “oh how absurd to think £100,000 is anything like the real nasty people out there” I’ve already said it’s a question of degrees, but wherever people lie on that scale will always be the ok part

That’s not how departmental budgets or fixed pay scales in large organisations work. I think all the attorneys should have their pay cut and the administrators paid more, but my colleagues complain that it’s unfair that we’re not paid as much as the US folk do so I’m not sure that would get much support.

at least you’re trying
