Nothing about this can be described as ā€œgoodā€: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-GSMV-iKtE

Thanks for taking the time to write that, you’ve articulated what I was thinking (have a feeling you’ve done this before too)

Yes it would be, you are right. I’m by no means exempt from blame or judgement for my actions, it’s of course a question of degrees like many things. Could totally see how spending money at huge companies that don’t pay tax is itself a morally bad act and something to be discouraged though!

gosh I’m tired

That was during the all-giving-to-charity-is-right-wing and people-should-voluntarily-pay-more-tax-to-the-government-instead phase of this thread.

To be fair to all parties, everyone’s arguments have developed considerably since then.

You’ve said he’s your favourite poster on here so yeah…
I think some of the comments were fair, some maybe not. Would you deny the fact he started this thread presumably to entrap people is maybe just a little devious or that some of his views are perhaps just a little lacking in nuance

He literally said:

Which is pretty harsh on the concept (and established benefit) of the fund. I can understand why people were pretty upset about that.

Absolutely no one is saying that

Nah I was answering the previous point about whether doctors deserve to be paid more than others. And I was saying that even if you agree with differing pay scales, a system where anybody is able to afford a second home while others starve on the streets is a broken one. Was basically using this as an alternative scale to the salary point.

I was originally trying to show that i don’t want to be biased towards my friends or people on here with my views regarding charity and the rich etc. Trying to be intellectually honest

Ok, but there are people on here who I imagine are struggling for all kinds of reasons and the fund has been really beneficial for them. Perhaps consider them when you decide to voice your intellectual honesty

Can’t really avoid this sounding emotive but what I wanted to say is if there are people here on huge salaries I don’t think contributing to a fund like that justifies their wage. Kind of an unhelpful example as it’s emotive for people on here and we have an interest in it and the people it helps, sorry if I was the one to bring that up I genuinely can’t remember now. Separate from this point I’m happy that people want to give to that fund and thank you to those who have

You’re accusing people on here of twisting stuff Bam’s said out of context (fairly, in some cases), but you’re also doing that a little bit yourself here. That high earners should pay more taxes, reducing the need for charity in the first place, is not the part of the argument that people have been taking issue with.

There no twisting there that I can see, it’s a direct reply to someone from a direct quote from me saying people are upset by that quote, unless I’m misreading something here?

Thread finished as far as I’m concerned. Conclusion? There’s good and people in the world regardless of how much they earn or if they are famous. No surprises.

The original point was that people who can afford to give large sums to charity were bad people regardless of whether or not they actually did, because their wealth promotes inequality. Someone asked if this applied to the rainy day fund and Bam said it did. Of course thats going to get a reaction. He’s tracked back a bit now, and I don’t think he meant it to come across like that, but it’s how the argument went. You can’t accuse people of twisting or misinterpreting stuff when you’re doing the same thing.

I only just started reading this thread, but I can’t see what @Bamnan has said that is so out of order. He seems to have a totally valid point and the claims of bullying for responding to a snarky jibe about his thread seemed a bit off to me.

thanks. I don’t want to reignite tensions between people here, I’m sure others have a right to make their case too in response but I do appreciate you taking the time to read this and comment.
