Good Lyrics or Regrettable Lyrics - A Poll Thread

You know how there are some lyrics that you can’t quite figure out if they’re good or regrettable? Let’s vote on these and make cases for our positions and argue. Try to include the artist and song so everyone knows what you’re talking about.

I’ll kick things off with a lyric that I’ve heard many people complain about from one of the greatest songwriters of all time

Almost started things off with this one! I’m going to go with good for the sheer audacity of it, and despite it being preposterous, it somehow feels less forced than a lot of the ATD-I reunion lyrics.

Someone once complained to me that it was overly dramatic and too on-the-nose, but he’s a truly horrible person and also the only person I know who thinks Elliott Smith is awful, generic, whiny emo.

I order the foie gras and I eat it with complete disdain.

Best song ever and I love how embarrassed and angry one of my pals gets when I play it in the car

Ah just that it’s a bit embarrassing and overly earnest

Alright Paul Morley.

  • Ah, what a clever metaphor!
  • No idea wtf you’re getting at there, Matt. Bit weird.
