Good Lyrics or Regrettable Lyrics - A Poll Thread

#1

You know how there are some lyrics that you can’t quite figure out if they’re good or regrettable? Let’s vote on these and make cases for our positions and argue. Try to include the artist and song so everyone knows what you’re talking about.

Almost started things off with this one! I’m going to go with good for the sheer audacity of it, and despite it being preposterous, it somehow feels less forced than a lot of the ATD-I reunion lyrics.

#13

i listened to it this morning, proper laughed when it came on

#14

how can this be regrettable? it’s wordplay. how basic would someone have to be to be like, “uhh you don’t put a cast on a broken heart”

unless I’m missing something? in which way is this not good? I’m confused and irked.

Someone once complained to me that it was overly dramatic and too on-the-nose, but he’s a truly horrible person and also the only person I know who thinks Elliott Smith is awful, generic, whiny emo.

#16

yeah, that person can get the gtfo out.

this is a graceful, elliptical lyricist allowing himself a gently self-deprecating punchline.

Ah just that it’s a bit embarrassing and overly earnest
