Any non-Radio 6 suggestions? My favourite radio thing used to be Mike Davies on Radio 1, but nothing’s really filled the void since they cancelled it.

Trevor Nelson’s Rhythm Nation

On Resonance FM: The OST Show presented by Jonny Trunk. Every Saturday 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

That’s a blast from the past - I went to see him do his Dirty Fan Mail show donkeys years ago in Bethnal Green. I won the raffle for a framed photo of an original letter from spunky Arthur.

Marc Riley is great, but his picks feels rather predictable a lot of time - seems like he’s on commission to mention Teleman or Thee Oh Sees. But if I want to hear some quirky guitar bands, he has the go to show.

I really don’t mind Keaveney, but Laverne is the best listening at the 9-5. Iggy’s show is a great unpredictable scattering of songs, as is Jarvis Cocker’s.

I would like to know about more stuff away from the beeb though, I’ve not tried Beats radio.

Yep, it’s about as glamorous as it sounds. But it’s the first (and last thing) I’ve ever won in a raffle so I was quite pleased with myself. Mrs prob won’t let me hang it on the wall though. Funny that.

Is Beats 1 worth it then? I have been tempted by it. Can you listen to it without the subscription?

Also, we’re listening to Gary Davies on Radio 2 at work. I would not recommend that.

You can stream it live without having a subscription:

No mention of RBMA yet - plenty of solid gold on there. My faves are Andrew Nosnitsky’s All the Raps and Earl Sweatshirt / Knxwledge’s Stay Inside. Still so much that looks great that I haven’t investigated yet

:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kershaw

A thousand million times this. Liz Kershaw Remembers Things is easily the most painful two hours of radio out there.

It’s like your auntie’s been tanning the sherry at Christmas and decided to try her hand at podcasting.

“Ey…errr…d’you remember The Macc Lads? Ey, they were proper great, weren’t they? What was that one they done…summat about Camberwick Green where it were all kickin’ off. That were a great singl…oh no, 'ang on, that were 'Alf Man 'Alf Biscuit, weren’t it? Ey, what am I like, eh? 'Ere, 'ave I done me Smashie and Nicey impression yet?..”

cut to footage of producer with his head in his hands, fade to black…

“…d’you remember Curly Wurlys?..”

Love MAH and Cerys. Craig Charles and Huey play great stuff I think, but agree that Charles’ style puts me off after a bit. It is Saturday night ‘getting ready to go out’ time to be fair though.
I’m indifferent to Keaveny, find him funny sometimes but less and less these days.

I hate on Lamacq how everything is geared towards playing stuff from his Britpop heyday (which he incidentally had a big hand in). Like last week was ’ What was your 2nd gig?’.
Kershaw is similar, it always seems like the same bloke rings up for the ‘all killer no filler’ part.

It’s a (really poor) local radio show. God knows what it is doing on 6Music

Ah, now come on, that’s a bit harsh (on local radio).

Anyone remember George lamb who used to do the R6 breakfast show? Now that was an embarrassment to the airwaves.

I very rarely listen to any radio. When I got my current car and realised it had a DAB I thought great I can listen to 6music to and from work, this didn’t work as Keavney winds me up in about 5 minutes flat (you think you’re funny pal but you’re really really not), and I often forget to listen to Lammo on the way home.

I think Cerys is a great broadcaster - some of her interviews are really good and she is clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic- but most of the music she plays is so bland. That programme really should be on Radio 2.
