His early albums are some of the bleakest music I’ve ever heard.
Which makes sense given his situation at the time (being in RHCP)

Could you post an example of one of his more bleak tunes please. You’ve piqued my curiosity.
Dont think they’re on streaming but Anton Fier released a couple of solo records too, got one of them on cd
J Mascis
I really like Themes From by Nyx Nótt aka Aidan Moffat from Arab Strap, instrumental tracks based off samples from various TV themes and film music libraries.
I slept on this one but stands up as some of the best stuff yer man from frightened rabbit produced. Don’t know if his stuff as Mastersystem counts.
Not sure if this counts, because it isn’t a solo album as such - but it’s a north-eastern 2 for 1.
Rachel Unthank from The Unthanks and Paul Smith from Maximo Park.
For some reason I’ve never connected with DCFC yet I love the Postal Service, Ben Gibbard’s collaboration with Jay Farrar and his solo album.
Aidan Moffat has had some great collabs.
This one with Bill Wells is my fave song he has ever been involved in I think.
The albums with RM Hubbert are great too.
(Realised collabs may not be solo albums, but they are outside the normal band
)
Bernard Butler’s debut solo album is great. But it could be argued that he’s better known now for his solo, writing, and production work.
Thomas Wylder, Mick Harvey and Hugo Race are all on Danger in the Past, so that’s almost a Bad Seeds record too.
