I used to have a rival when I was a teenager. He was head of the boysā school magazine and I was head of the girlsā school magazine. We were friends (I fancied him for a bit, ew gross), then he was inexplicably horrible to me⦠like he apologised for something nasty he said and yet the next thing I knew he was telling someone he wanted me to drown in a river??? Literally such an arsehole. Smug Tory too, the human definition of mansplaining, now works for the Mailās sport section.
Low point was when (while we were not on terrible terms) I invited him to a Facebook event about Non-League Day as he was ostensibly a huge football fan. His posted this:
"Dear All,
Iāve sent off for my FOOTBALL LEAGUE tickets so regrettably I cannot attend NON LEAGUE day. Which isnāt even non league day because LEAGUE ONE and to some extent two are playing. But best of luck to the Tonbridge Angels, I saw they beat Bury Town who have the misfortune of fielding our rather useless striker James Scowcroft these days. I guess that really more than anything shows the difference in class.
Lots of footbally love,
[his name]

Still, I had the last laugh two weeks ago⦠because he supports Leyton Orient
Needless to say, I will be tweeting him a screenshot on the next NLD. Literally canāt wait.
