I think it might’ve changed, Gousto have done a lot in the time ive used them to reduce packaging, the only things that come wrapped is meat, spices (little sachets) and herbs/spring greens that you couldn’t have loose.

You lot must be walking home from the shops with everything in your bare hands or something

This is

  • Good idea
  • Fucking insane

Can you not see how incredibly patronising and rude and unnecessary your comment was?

there’s clearly a difference between buying a big bag of spices and using them in recipes and having one portion individually packed?

I’m sure they are doing things but I just find it bizarre and wasteful when it’s like 5 pots of the same spice. Obviously, that’s how they package it in the warehouse but as a consumer, it just feels incredibly wasteful when you’re trying to cut down on single use plastics.

huh?

I agree with the spices to an extent but I don’t think the service would work if they started saying ‘oh you need to already have this spice and this one as well…’

:man_shrugging:
don’t see why these kinds of services couldn’t send you a pot of spices in the first place, with a tick box option online saying “need a new one” when you run out. they could presumably estimate it from the recipes you order too.

Anyway can everyone stop pissing all over my thread it was meant to be for people who actually use it

Yes, especially if it’s targeting people who aren’t that enthusiastic about cooking and may not have that stuff knocking about.

Not a bad idea you should suggest it to them

Here are some things I’ve made with Simply Cook. It’s really good making things you wouldn’t usually think of making. Sure you could always get a cookbook, get flustered in Sainsbos searching for obscure ingredients that turn out to be out of stock, get out your pestle and mortar, make loads of mess in the kitchen and then go straight to bed after eating because it’s now 10pm, but I CBA with any of that.

That’s Simply Cook. Restaurant quality meals from just £2 per recipe!

Looks lovely! I think this is the key thing for me - I’m making stuff I would never have normally tried. The recipes that I really like I put in a separate folder and then I put them into regular rotation by buying straight from the supermarket

Looks very good, but I had a v pushy and rude door to door salesman try and force me to subscribe to this, which resulted in me getting a bit wound up. Also I think that just the recipe idea isn’t a great one tbh when there’s much more encompassing services out there.

Also you still have to go out and buy ingredients! I just don’t get this idea.

Didn’t even realise they had salesmen. That sucks.

What other services do you mean? The bigger ones like Gousto are all way more expensive.

is there anything similar/ good for non meatbookers? I know G/HF have non meat options but seems expensive in context

Well things like rice, pasta, onions etc you’ll likely have in the cupboard already. Then it’s just getting fresh meat and veg. I live 2 mins away from Sains, M&S and loads of butchers and greengrocers, it’s not that much of a bother and I’d rather buy these things according to my personal preference. Obviously this won’t work for everyone but for me it’s perfect.

I have ongoing gousto and hello fresh subscriptions and I order from one every 3/4 weeks.

Have done Hello Fresh Christmas Dinner the last two years too and it’s been great.

SC: “[sales pitch] give me your email address”
Me: “I do not want this thing.”
SC: “Oh. Bye”

Yeah I meant gousto and HF, mostly
