Great albums with terrible covers

The Moon & Antartica is a great album, probably my favourite Modest Mouse, but this is an embarrassingly terrible cover:

Tim by the Replacements is a great album, but it has a terrible cover:

Is this a thread? I guess it is now.

See, I don’t mind Court & Spark, but Hejira is real bad:

…yeah

I accidentally spilled a pint over my copy so it has a big stain which I think has actually improved it.

Can never decide whether this cover is great or shit but it’s definitely nowhere in the middle

Legend has it that it is a sly dig at Cat Power (Callahan having recently split up with Chan Marshall)

Always thought it was a shame this cover is so bad, it actively negatively affects my opinion of the album. Then I listen to it and remember it’s brilliant.

Reckon there are a lot from the 90s, when computer art was just becoming a thing but was still mostly very very naff

Pen & Pixel sleeves are all amazing, no exceptions

It’s particularly weird because all their other albums have great covers - Dig Me Out, The Woods and All Hands on the Bad One especially

agreed, The Hot Rock cover photo is instantly iconic as well.

No idea what they were thinking with this one.
