Virginia Wing
Vanishing Twin
Girl Ray
Hype Williams (pushing the definition of group here I know)

I realise these are all niche fan-base groups.

Neither of the following released their debuts in the 2010s, but but were active throughout and released a bunch of good stuff (especially the former):

Rolo Tomassi
Blood Red Shoes

I guess you wouldn’t call Let’s Eat Grandma or Sleaford Mods “groups”?

Edit - just seen Sleaford Mods mentioned and I actually voted in the poll lol. Yes, they are definitely a great English group of the 2010s!

I wasn’t being serious with the Radiohead one

Daughter is not a bad shout. I never gelled with the debut but the second album and the early EPs are all tremendous

Loved the debut (and all the rest), shimmering reverb heavy 4AD throwback. Right up my alley. Much better than the dreary solo stuff…

English…

Well the remit wasn’t English bands that debuted in the 10s but rather that were active in that period. And also ‘great’.
Obvs people are going to have differing opinions on that, for example I think one of the bands you listed are actively bad, but it’s okay and not getting wound up about or calling people trolls imo.

I’m partial to a bit of Public Service Broadcasting. Gagarin is very catchy, and I really enjoy White Star Liner.

Yeah that was really good Iive tbf
Some of the samples are lifted straight from the Titanic exhibition (which I notices at a later point when I did the tour)

They were very good tbf (Boy King was a bit Meh tho)

I liked it a lot but I will concede it was probably their weakest. Seemed like a fun experiment, the whole ‘being the band we always fought against being’ but then because it ended up being their last album that felt more like they’d run out of ideas. Both Thorpe and Fleming are gonna do more good solo stuff I’m sure but hopefully they reunite when I’m an old duffer hungry for nostalgic hoots and howls

Ah nice, i’d love to see them live actually. Interesting!

They were good.
As IC-Smic mentions upthread it was the BBC festival at Titanic Belfast and White Star Liner had been done just for it iirc and they debuted the whole thing live (the recorded version was a few months later) - thought it was really good. I must pick up a copy at some point. Not so familiar with the rest of their stuff but willing to give them a chance.

Ahhh OK. Awesome!

Yeh I recommend giving them a chance, my favourite album is The Race For Space. Got some cracking songs on IMO.

I’ve heard some of it I think.

I’ve never been that fussed with them, but saw them live at Blue Dot a couple of years ago and thought they were dead good. That Progress song with Tracyanne Campbell from Camera Obscura is ace.
