This post is displaying an annotation to the lyrics of a song from the website Genius, and whilst the thread title suggests a thread for “great” examples of thus, the subversive meme concluding the post reveals the true subversive intent of the ironic thread title by highlighting the narrator’s belief that the annotation in question adds no context which the reader would not infer directly from the text.
I wonder if there’s a similar one from Natasha Beddingfield for Unwritten around how she said ‘hyperbole’?
Unwritten is my number 1 kareoke jam, it’s one of my most played songs on tidal, and I’m here to tell you that the word “hyperbole” does not appear in the lyrics.
Unless she mispronounces it so hard it sounds like “rain” or “blank page” or smth
Oh sorry, I clearly don’t recall the title. I’m sure she has a song where she said hyperbole as ‘hyper bowl’ but maybe it’s one of those weird things I’ve completely misunderstood.
EDIT: I just find it really funny that any artist would act like it’s the job of producers etc to second guess whatever they decide to put down in that sort of way. Obviously if they’re doing a song about how great Nazis are then someone should be stepping in but otherwise…

Got time for this
Go on Natasha
Yeah, I think this comes under the poetic licence of lyrics regardless. ![]()
I mean Lydon rhymed anarchist with anti-christ and no one ever gave him a hard time.
“scansion” ![]()
Big fan of people writing out the lyrics to samples like they’re lyrics, this one is a personal favourite:
I went on the genius page for you’re on your own kid by Taylor Swift because I wanted to know what the “so long daisy may” line means, and the summary was like “you’re on your own kid is about a young woman who realises she is on her own” and I’m like gee whizz that’s some analysis lads
those commas are mad
also isn’t it cunts plural?
I think a lot of this kind of stuff must exist because there are a lot of schoolkids using the internet who basically do the ‘why?’ thing on there that they do to their parents all the time. ![]()
(Clearly this line is about her realising that there’s only so much profit from turnips you can make in Animal Crossings: New Horizons and it’s time to move on and get involved in something else.)
