This’ll get no likes whatsoever, because no one here likes Muse after Absolution (if at all), but I remember when BH&R came out feeling that Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole and Map of the Problematique made for a phenomenal series of songs.

Bloc Party: Helicopter —> Positive Tension —> Banquet

You could include Like Eating Glass at the start of that run and have a candidate for best run of four tracks.

Pixies: Debaser —> Tame —> Wave of Mutilation (Doolittle)

One last one from left field (not the band)…

Kylie Minogue: Did It Again —> Breathe —> Say Hey (Impossible Princess)

Right album. Different 3: The Seventh Seal / On Your Own Again / The World’s Strongest Man

That first half of Black Holes was definitely the last time Muse were good

You beat me to making this thread by a few hours! I’ll limit it to one per band for now. All of these I consider to basically be the focal points of the albums, where if you hypothetically replaced them with three other great songs the album would be changed for the worse. No particular order, except for the first two.

  1. Behold! the Night Mare, For Martha, Blank Page on Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins

  2. Lives, Life Like Weeds, What People Are Made Of on The Moon and Antarctica by Modest Mouse

Hounds, Corsicana, Putting the Dog to Sleep on Burst Apart by The Antlers

Since I can’t decide which one on Gentlemen, I’ll go with Bulletproof, Summer’s Kiss, and Faded on Black Love by the Afghan Whigs

Strung Out Again, A Fond Farewell, King’s Crossing on From a Basement on the Hill by Elliott Smith

Some more and some runner ups coming in a bit.

Some more good ones (sorry for the lack of links this time) using the same criteria

  • Galapagos, Muzzle, Porcelina (on Mellon Collie by The Smashing Pumpkins, since the SD one was already mentioned)

  • Grey Ice Water, Positive / Negative, Other People’s Lives (on Building Nothing out of Something by Modest Mouse)

  • +Out of Site, Kicked It in the Sun, Untrustable (on Perfect from Now On by Built to Spill)

  • +Ghost Train, Raining in Baltimore, A Murder of One (on August and Everything After by The Counting Crows)

  • +***Railroad Lullaby, East 17th / Into the Street, Twilite (on Twilight as Played by The Twilight Singers)

  • New Year, Wishes, On the Sea (on Bloom by Beach House)

  • Blister, Clarity, Goodbye Sky Harbor (on Clarity by Jimmy Eat World)

  • The Combo, Sun Coming Down, Beautiful Blue Sky (on Sun Coming Down by Ought)

  • Ecce Homo, Still Life with Hot Deuce on Silver Platter, Upon Viewing Oregon’s Landscape with the Flood of Detritus (on Local Business by Titus Andronicus)

***Not sure if this counts, but I’ll throw it in since East 17th is just a minute long interlude.
+Should have been on my original list

There was a time with Bloom when I’d pretty much nominate any set of three tracks. Need to re-listen to that album (this is the issue with having an absolutely heaving collection of music).

Obviously this is great, especially the song in the middle.

REM (Automatic): Man On The Moon, Nightswimming and Find The River.

British Sea Power (The Decline Of): Something Wicked, Remember Me and Fear Of Drowning.
