We not covered this yet?

This is grounds for corporate manslaughter is it not?

Definitely seems like it. Don’t quite understand the story with the project manager, did he whistleblow or was he found out?

looks like a patsy who only realised in hindsight

murky stuff

It is, but this is a nation underpinned by white supremacy, the victims were mostly black and brown, the whole reason they put the cladding on in the first place was because the wealthy residents local to the tower thought it was ugly and the cladding would make it look better, whole thing was fucked up from the start. Many of the surviving families haven’t even been properly rehomed, let alone get justice for what happened

The cladding scandal aftermath of this has been a complete and utter clusterfuck as well and it seems to finally be starting to pick up traction in the media. Thousands and thousands of people across the country mortgage prisoners in homes they’re leaseholders for (myself included) many of whom are now being footed with the bill for replacing the dangerous cladding on their homes (my housing association seems to be paying at this point thank fuck) when the property developers who slung up the buildings and the shitty regulations that led to it being acceptable have absolutely no impact on them whatsoever.

total shitshow, absolutely shameful and scandalous

Keep seeing the cladding scandal popping up in the news, but it never seems to be able to build to a critical mass as bigger stories push it back down the agenda. Scary stuff, and proper end game capitalism. Plus, apparently there’s over a million flats in the UK affected so no clear route to even try and get all blocks properly certified. Hope it works out for you m9 :+1:

Cheers pal.

We’ve had no cladding on most of our building for over a year now and the weatherproofing stuff they put up has long since expired so getting damp and mould etc but, even then, still nothing compared to the state of some of the other flats in our block. We’ve currently actually got scaffolding going up so maybe they’re actually sorting it out now after months and months of inactivity (we’ve still got the dangerous stuff on one side of the building though as its adjacent to a railway line and needs Network Rail permission to be able to get scaffolding up, if and when this comes in the work will take place between 1am and 4am! Hooray!)

Yeah, both what you & @avocado say point way beyond Grenfell to deep inequalities in both housing & justice

The systemic power of capital and free markets in post-colonial Britain is brutal

Anything short of corporate manslaughter charges, huge compensation for the families of victims & proper rehousing of survivors - along with a raft of reforms - will be scandalous

Plus, the fact of having to wait 3/4/5 years for these things is scandalous in itself

The legal system in this county is a farce. Cause and culpability were clear at the outset, the only reasons it has taken this long are racism, classism, and the power of capital to cover its arse. And it happens all. The. Time. I’m currently working on a case that was heard last year but initially was heard 10 years ago! It’s ridiculous.

I dunno about everyone else, but I’ve been relatively quiet about it not because I don’t care but because I’m so angry I can’t find the words at all.

I go through phases of that and phases of resignation at the fact that no amount of anger is going to change things for the foreseeable future. It’s a toxic mix.

This doesn’t seem to be getting much attention in the press today, compared to when they blamed the fire fighters:

Missed that there was a second stream later in the day but if anyone’s interested enough to watch back: Bereaved, Survivors & Residents Evidence - Wednesday 21st April 2021 (2/2) - YouTube

And for a bit of context (which I should have provided earlier), he was a resident of the tower and a critic of the management organisation and council in the years leading up to the fire
