update on the future of the pod
only gonna post these intermittently cos i want people who have criticisms to feel like they can say if something sucks, so i shan’t lurk too much.
i’m upgrading the studio kit soon, to the rode podmic and focusrite solo interface (or the much cheaper but still nice sounding behringer UM2, we’ll see). so hopefully the audio quality will improve a bit more - i started with the blue snowball and bumped up to a yeti nano over summer, it’s stunning how little i understood about microphones in hindsight. no more usb condensers after 2020 tho - i think with it getting bigger/my accent in general, i need to ensure max possible audio clarity.
there will be 2 episodes released thru the week of halloween - the first episode of the haunted america series, and a kind of treehouse of horror halloween special where we’re going to loosen the fact checking and source standards, get weird, and let it all hang out there with a look at 3 strange stories from modern american history. it’ll be a touch lighter, and hopefully scary and fun too. idk if i will have the new setup in place by then but hopefully these eps should be ready by the end of next week regardless.
anticipating haunted america will take a good year to finish. we will also have a couple of recurring sub-topics or subplots or whatever running throughout, maybe 4 or 5 episodes per topic, that will be between 20 - 30 minutes each, in addition to the main series. these are:
hollywood ghost stories
silicon valley
the looming towers (a grounded, hopefully thoughtful look at the road to 9/11 and by extension the 21st century)
amerikan tabloids (gangster stuff)
the PROJECT series (mkultra, mknaomi, etc)
it’s a bit of an undertaking, but i hope within a year or so, we will have a pretty decent picture of the post-war US underworld/big business/intelligence/deep politics. i’m still mulling how to approach the trump presidency at the end, my feeling is we need more distance from it to properly contextualise his time in office (assuming he loses). but if someone wants to take over for an ep to cover trump then hit me up in about a year, cos he does bear discussing 
after that i might put it to a vote where we go next, britain or turkey/the balkans.
also anytime someone fancies coming on for a guest spot, maybe you have a story or something to share, just dm me or hit the show email, i always get back.
