This century is pretty young. I canā€™t think of any buildings that new.

one thing Iā€™m sure we can all agree on is that the guy from grand designs is a right plonker.

Iā€™d have swapped the top two in the list, because while the Tate Modern is undeniably excellent and an important milestone in the treatment of old industrial built environments, the idea behind reusing existing buildings in a living space context is, to me, of greater social importance and should be foregrounded. People love art, but when people leave a gallery they go back home. Building great homes should be the highest architectural goal.

yeah I mean itā€™s weird that we have art galleries whilst people are homeless really

itā€™s just the guardian are suddenly doing lots of lists. sorry for the confusion

I imagine itā€™s greener and cheaper to reuse old buildings than demolish them and make something better in most cases

Ah, I was going to say, they never even emailed! Lists are for squares.

Pretty fashionable to say giant grey monstrosities are brilliant since that Meades doc isnā€™t it

I donā€™t think it has to be a binary - after all, the people who are able to not be homeless arenā€™t all responsible for the fact that people are, and itā€™s not really on to deny everyone pleasures while other people are suffering. However, we prize distraction over equality as a society (perhaps even simply as humans) and thatā€™s not right. While itā€™s wonderful to be able to point to these beautiful and moving creations as great achievements of humanity, a greater achievement would be to create an equal society.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of architecture

just think a lot of art can be made small enough to exhibit in peopleā€™s homes or the street really. Iā€™d rather live in a world of more local art being seen by 10-20 people than huge famous art seen by millions, make art socialist
