God everything about this

A ‘Karen’ isn’t necessarily someone who endangers minorities, it’s someone using their societal position and wealth to make life difficult for someone they see as lower than them. The ur-Karen phrase is ‘I want to speak to your manager’. The fact it so often involves middle aged white women interacting with black service workers is how the meme coalesced on black social media but the actual root of it speaks to how racism is rooted in the class structure of capitalism. But ofc people like Freeman bled it of class politics and made it entirely about idpol, then from there managed to make themselves the victims. All idpol is to these worms is a way to break up solidarity and demand you stop talking about things that make them uncomfortable, because it’s racist or sexist somehow.

Can’t even bring myself to talk about her total misconception of comedy and describing Pixar movies as ‘religious texts’. What an offensively dull person, the epitome of dead-end liberal thought. For this career transpeople across the country with vastly more to say must suffer on the fringes of society.

By writing about Pixar films and starting Sex and the City vs Sopranos arguments, of course

It’s nothing compared to the despair of reading a weekly column in The Guardian

That was the other fucking thing Freeman had shat out in the last few weeks, Sex And The City V Sopranos. FFS

That was winding me up. Been trying to remember that for the 3 hours.

Also getting upset about Biden

I absolutely despised everything and everyone involved in the smugfest that was Away We Go. Maya Rudolph sinking down into the middle of a busy road in an apparently shit-smeared wedding dress was the precise moment I forgave her. :+1:

Proper toothgrinding when you think how hard people have to work to even get good freelance rates as a writer when there’s someone getting a comfortable wage to piss out this shite

films featuring primarily African-American characters just being beaten out by high school films and films about female friendship huh? Seems an odd point to make in the middle there. Although the punctuation makes me think i’m misreading it, but then i’m pretty stupid so who knows what she is actually getting at.

I wonder what their usernames are

I’ve no idea who they are, but it’s almost certain that we have mutual friends on at least one social media site

It says they’re Worthing, It’s almost certain that Tim or I have been at some of the same gigs in Brighton (because Worthing doesn’t really do gigs)

I haven’t seen the film yet, so can’t comment on the specific things he says about it, but FFS

“Its molten core threw me back to late 2017, when the early #MeToo movement flooded with white-hot rage – a constellation of private pains suddenly given vague, if still revelatory, shape in the public forum… But three-plus years removed from the fuse of the #MeToo movement, a decade-plus into the internet’s loose flotsam of story after story…Unmasking is a limited thrill.”

It’s all just SOOO 2017, not on trend at all. Just too passé for Adrian Horton.

so … all stories are redundant since we’ve heard them all before and we’re all too desensitised to care? what a great take

I am an important man, and I know about films.

Let’s move on because Adrian finds it a bit boring and passe now, and he is the important one, because he has a Guardian column. It doesn’t really matter if people receive any justice or meaningful change for society, we’ve used up the column inches for the press to use it as a theme, and we’re on to the next fad.

I think Adrian might be a woman? Literally only heard of one other woman called Adrian, and that was in Rocky…

It’s still an extremely shit take.

Potato

That’s… really weird, but this is the Twitter account linked from the Guardian profile,

https://twitter.com/adrian_horton

and this is their website (as far as I can tell).

For some of us the only options are potato and slightly hairy potato.

That’s Bob Avian, whose Guardian obituary was written by Horton. Not sure why his picture comes up there.
