One of Pollard’s own nominations for his best lyrics on this; apparently straightforward by his standards (with the slight complication that it is on a concept album), but not cloying. Cursory internet searches don’t seem to tell me where the “it’s a love song to alcohol” quotation actually comes from, but I wouldn’t argue with that.

What a song. Just one of the best things ever put to tape imo. “A love song to alcohol” is right in that it goes to the heart of the matter in regards to alcoholism in an amazingly concise and honest way. Genius.

Brilliant tune. The way the bass responds to the ends of the vocal lines is so good and the synth coming into the outro is majestic.
