I love the Strymon BigSky, TimeLine and El Capistan. Couldn’t do without them now.

The Neunaber Immerse is amazing on the reverb front too.

For gigging, given the number of different sounds I need in my covers band, I’ve now gone all-in-one digital unit - the Fractal Audio FX8 Mark II, which is as good (and convenient) as I had hoped.

For overdrive/distortion/fuzz, I love Keeley pedals. Been using a Keeley modded Boss BD-2 as my main overdrive for years.

Got an original DigiTech Whammy, but find it hard to use effectively.

Just got a DigiTech FreqOut, which is totally rad at what it does.

what’s your favourite guitar + amp tone

without peddles or setting adjustments I make it 140 different combinations there (147 when you pick up your Duesenberg)

Have you tried every amp with every guitar (and every pick-up setting & every amp channel ?)

Probably not

ES-335, middle position, into Deluxe Reverb with some amp reverb and slow trem is pretty amazing.

an acoustic guitar and a laptop.

i record bits and pieces on my phone or into my laptop using the built in record functions on them. the sound is subsequently really shitty and lo-fi cos they’re not designed to record music. i think it sounds amazing because of that, however.

then i just load them into my DAW and stretch/chop/warp/add fx until i’m happy.

Fuzzes - Turbo Rat / Zvex FF / Danelectro French Toast / Boss FZ5 / Joyo Voodoo octave / Behringer super fuzz
Delays - Akai Headrush E1 / Memory man with Hazarai / Danelectro PB&J / Behringer vintage delay
Other nonsense - Cry baby / Dan-o-Wah / MXR Uni-vibe / Behringer ultra shifter Harmonist x2 / Vintage phaser / Belcat Tremolo / Joyo Flanger.

About half of the above gets used with my band Crap Crab.
Find that some of the cheaper Behringer / Joyo stuff works better in my set up than the more expensive fuzzes and delays etc. Gear snobbery be damned!

Just ordered the Behringer Echo Machine for playing around with last night, and sold my £megabucks Dwarcraft/Devi Ever Silver Rose because it wasn’t as good as the Big Muff reissue that was £15 off eBay years ago. Can’t be doing with pedal snobbery.

The Echo machine is meant to be as good if not better than some of the Boss DD pedals, been meaning to get one next time I’m feeling a bit fruity. The Akai Headrush has been my go to delay since I bought it about 15 years ago though, just love the sound and control you get from the tap tempo.

A Gibson Sonex? Yeeeeah! Would love one of those, or a Marauder or an S-1 from the same era.

Yeah, I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty frickin sweet. Bought it off the drummer from my old band when the neck snapped on my old Epiphone gold top. Best bit of bad luck I’ve ever had. Currently getting used in a sludge metal outfit in drop G. Lots of fun.

That’s some excellent bad luck right there! Have you any material recorded with that band?
