The previously mentioned guitar wanker 6th form boys above spent all their time pissing on the wall for dominance by playing RHCP and Incubus songs.

@meths used to have a guitar like this

@meths these are now worth a lot more than they used to be. i hope you got a good price when you sold yours

Was the fucking bane of my life all of that

Meanwhile the band I was in were

and recording with the PJ Harvey entourage and absolutely not getting million dollar record deals

it wasn’t that exact guitar, it was just in that vein, finish wise. i think it was a stratocaster. and it wasn’t actually his he just borrowed it for years.

Played fretless bass for a while, and I’m massively uptight. Fretless is fun as hell though

you probably wouldn’t be here now on DiS if you were in Reef though so it worked out well for you in the end

did you ever at any point play roni size - brown paper bag on there?

I made it and meths up entirely, sorry

I did not do that, to my chagrin. Bass chords or harmonies on fretless are a total blast though

Had no desire to be in Reef of course, just the Sony money would have been nice

We did support Spiritualized one time though, so that was ok

it’s probably all gone on drugs and fun times now anyway

Started with strats, moved onto Les Paul’s when i got older but got fed up of the weight and being a two humbucker guy.
Gave up playing completely for years.
Mostly acoustic now but picked up my tele and a Line6 Amplifi the other year for an electric fix and I’m now fully on board the Tele bus.
Just love how no nonsense it is. Plays great too.

I love making boooooouuauuaaaaaam noises by sliding up and down the neck on fretless bass.

Went into a Denmark St shop once and asked to try out a fancy Custom Shop Tele (I think) they had high up on the wall.

“Well, are you planning on buying it?”
“Umm … I’m not sure? I’d need to try it first to see if I like it enough.”
“Sorry, we only really let people try those guitars if they’re serious buyers.”

Fair play I was a greasy long haired student, so might not have looked like the most viable customer. But I had some birthday and Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket so could easily have managed to get it if I’d been so inclined. Why do they insist on getting in their own way and putting off potential customers? Why not just assume everyone could be a buyer until they prove otherwise? You can try out a £16k car for hours at a time to see if it suits you, but they’re uber-paranoid about me putting a single ding on their hallowed £1500 guitar?

So strange

I sold mine eventually for a sweet profit of around £2.50. It’s a really lovely pedal but just didn’t quite suit me. I put the money towards a Walrus Slo which suits my ‘play a chord, lie down, soak in the vibes for about an hour’ style more.

Guitar shop owners: oh why won’t people come and spend money in our shops, please don’t buy online, save our shops!

Also guitar shop owners:

Give you dirty looks when you enter shop.
Act really unhelpful when you ask any type of question.
Act really put out if you want to try a guitar or amp.
Ridicule your playing/music taste/purchases.
Try to upsell you some absolute shit - your alright mate the only people likely to hear this will be me, the long suffering Mrs and at a push my unlucky neighbours.
