Guys 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♀️

  • Exclusively used to describe a group of males
  • Is not gender specific
  • Was once gender specific, but no longer is
  • Depends on context, but is a flexible term
  • Something else (please explain)

Someone asked me this the other day and I didn’t know how to answer so thought I’d ask you guys

i say guys to cover absolutely everyone including my cats

«There were some guys there» = There were some male humans

«Hey guys!» = Everyone and everything including cats, plants, and even female humans

Have never used the term in my life. Too PGL instructor for me.

“Other” because I have used it as a non-gender specific term before, but a few non male people have told me it’s not very inclusive… so I try to avoid it. Don’t think anyone who does use it is a raging misogynist or anything though

yeah, there has to be at least one man there. so really, guys isn’t the progressive term it would like to think it is, and is actually some patriarchal bullshit term.

Got no problems with it being used for all men, all women or a mix.

i would say this is probably overthinking it a bit tbh

I might have said that with some very dry humour. I am not funny.

oh! sorry, i’m bad at this
