Belgium are marginally better than England. Like a weird combination of post-Cruyff Holland in terms of dressing room politics and splits, and pre-boom Spain. Really shit coach as well. Quarters at best. As soon as they come up against Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Spain or even France they’ll fall to bits. Doesn’t matter if they’re likeable.

Reckon Belgium have better - some drastically - players than England in maybe 9/11 of the positions on the pitch (probably better than any country in the world in that respect apart from maybe Spain)

I dunno, maybe. England are possibly a more cohesive team, but then its really hard to judge based on either sets of qualifiers.

Wouldn’t necessarily trust Martinez, but then you could’ve said that about any number of international managers over the years - I think his weaknesses are probably more exposed over league campaigns, ala Coleman. And whatever scepticism you’d have over Martinez, you’d have to say the same about England replicating any of their qualities from qualifiers/friendlies come a tournament

Instinct is usually just to trust that quality will win out
