He seemed so proud that he’d solved it all I didn’t want to spoil it, but when tff replied I had to step in.

No wait, he says the opposite the ‘in the past’ meaning was actual one but the ‘just now’ is funnier (which it is)

I know mate but pal there were still people debating friend

Well Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (I'm not even on StarWarsBook, mate) a challenger appears…

The use of ‘everything’ rather than ‘anything’ tips this from gentle jibe to PROPHECY OF DOOM.

I’m in.

It’s cool compadre, we’re all good here bud.

It seems much funnier now we’ve discussed it at length

It’s definitely funnier for Homer to be referencing what he’s just seen. If you disagree you probably don’t get The Simpsons.

Muting the thread now. Don’t @ me.

The which interpretation is funnier is a debate with no correct answer which should never end

How have you gone and read this as the opposite of what he says? :joy:

yeah, can’t blame you

Always thought the line was read with a bit of nostalgia, like ‘heh, oh yeah, there was this one time’

Imagining how Homer found himself in a situation where someone says goodbye to a shoe is where the #comedygold lies. Lets the audience make the connection, which is funnier than spelling it out

The fact the line was improvised is neither here nor there because the author is dead and therefore not the source of the meaning of the text

can we talk about the placement of the colon in the thread title for a bit?

Mate, the Simpsons isn’t fun.
