Was just reading the oral history on Robert Altman, and Belafonte cropped up in a great story.

He and Altman made the movie Kansas City together - sounds like a joyous shambles, somehow I haven’t seen it - and Belafonte caught Altman watching TV to unwind at the end of a long day.

Altman didn’t know he was there, and for some reason he had the remote, and could hit the TV from his room. They were in Paris for some reason, and he was watching American sports, something he was fond of, and every time someone was about to dunk, or get a touchdown, or a skier was about to nail the landing, Belafonte changed the channel, provoking ever greater diatribes against the French, until Altman realised at the end of the show and cracked up.

Belafonte was that you?’
