Just a clunky way of saying Sub-Saharan-Africa-but-also-probably-not-South-Africa, innit.

I enjoyed a holiday in Morocco and it was hardly Costa del Spain, but assumed it to be too Mediterranean to fall into Jordo’s target area. Like, there won’t be many people who’ve been to the Canaries who’d chip in to say they’ve been to Africa, without offering a qualification.

I’m planning my honeymoon to ‘proper Africa’ and I need tips. Thinking about some kind of tour of southern Kenya, Tanzania and @anon5266188’s homeland, Uganda.

What are the best places?

Best Ugandan safari parks are Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park.

Murchison is in the north of the country which is a bit more dangerous on paper but the park itself is amazing (and is the only one which has giraffes in the country iirc) and it’s a really nice luxurious resort, very honeymoon friendly for sure.

Queen Elizabeth is a bit less luxurious but the park is amazing again and it’s also close enough to Bwindi if you wanted to do a gorilla trek or something as well (there’s also a chimpanzee trek near QE which was dead good as well)

Not done any safari in Tanzania but you can feasibly do it there and get yourself over to Zanzibar for a lovely bit of traditional resort honeymooning, we went to this place last year which was bloody lovely:

I’ve not done it but apparently Kenya is the absolute creme de la creme for Safari though.

Gissa shout for any tips or recommendations for anything non-safari related in Uganda as well if you want.

(Paara is the specific resort I can recommend for Murchison, Mweya is where we stayed in QE which is dead nice as well)

Depending on where you go you’ll probably end up seeing interesting wildlife anyway I was in a small town and I still saw lizards and geckos.

toured a few parks in kenya. they’re spectacular, and the maasai mara has all the main animals.

didn’t stay long enough in nairobi or mombasa to properly explore the cities
