Has anyone deliberately and successfully shrunk an item of clothing?

Have a shirt that I love but it’s a size too big.

I think I tried to shrink some jeans once, but can’t remember how it went.

How much do you like the shirt? Are you willing to ruin it? You could definitely try over heating it and maybe outing it one to cool/dry to shape, but I’ve never considered doing it myself

Well I really like it but it’s definitely too big. Then again it only cost a tenner so I don’t mind the risk of potentially ruining it. Either way I’m not going to wear it much as it stands.
I put it on a high temperature drying cycle the other week there, and at first I thought it had worked. But it seemed to expand again after a while. It’s half cotton, half linen.

Yeah.

What’s it made of? Do you have access to a tumble dryer?

In that case, as @Fintans_Cat suggested, give it a tumble and see. Sounds like a free experiment to me.

Shrinking stuff is unreliable, firstly because it probably won’t shrink, secondly because if it does shrink it won’t necessarily shrink evenly or in the direction you want

Take it to a tailor?

Yeah good point!

It is indeed. I once tried shrinking a large t shirt that I’d won, but it ended up being too short, while remaining too wide.

100% this. They’re miracle workers and way less expensive than you’d think.

Dropped this in today. They said they can do it for less than 20 euro, bargain! Hope they can work their magic with it
(Also they agreed that it’s a quality shirt)
Thanks & @froglet
