Has there been a thread about the Intel security clusterfuck?

@anon76851889 Yeah, I just bought a new Intel laptop ffs.

We do quite a lot of realtime multichannel audio signal processing at work which is very processor intensive. My guess is that will take quite a big hit.

Actually, just read a bit more… and it’s a bit more complex that that… it’s about how often it needs to go into the OS Kernel. At a guess, the processing part probably doesn’t, but the signal input/output may well need to.

Yeah, I think the audio I/O is done at the kernel layer but the processing is probably done at a higher level.

things have gone really quiet on this front, was it all a big scaremongering session? still need a new laptop and have my eye on a refurbed Mac.

MacOS 10.13.2 is patched to mitigate.

You won’t get a Mac CPU that’s not got the design flaws until next year at the earliest (unless you go back to PowerPC days, which you’d be insane to do), so there’s not much point waiting. Just make sure it’s not too old to patch to the latest version of MacOS

thanks, was hoping you’d reply. would 2012/3 be too old?

everything since 2010 is fine to run it apparently
