I finished scanning my stuff today in Asda but the person with the bags had fucked off somewhere. Ended up prowling around the shop aimlessly looking for bags then had to just give up and stand at my checkout for ages waiting for her to come back (I’d clocked her earlier so I knew there was at least someone about, if I hadn’t I would’ve been tempted to just leave my shopping and walk out out of spite)
Please sir, can I have some more carrier bags?
Would rather walk all the way home up the big hill with all my shopping just in my hands than ask for a bag
Waiting at a self-service till for someone to come and approve a transaction or fix a mistake is one of the most “We’re fucked” moments of everyday modern life.
Let this be a lesson to you (bring your own bags next time)
Stopped using self service if I’ve got more than 5 or 6 things.
Co op is worst for this. At least Sainsbury’s employ someone to stand by the tills

Hate the general vibe of being treated like a criminal at my Local Big Sainsbo.
All the unused tills are barricaded with trolleys to stop you walking through them. Have to go through a little flappy gate to get in to the shop, scan your receipt to get out.
If the amount of stuff going walkies is really that bad, maybe you should’ve thought about that before de-staffing all the tills and making everyone use self checkouts.
I always take my bike into Sainsburys and put my stuff in the saddlebags.

The big Sainsbury’s that make you scan your receipt to leave the shop is the biggest cop of all.
Critical support for security guards who just beep you through
Since they’re making you do the labour of operating the checkout, you’re allowed to take {minimum wage} amount of stuff each time.
Morrison’s consistently appalling for this in my experience, too.
They have people at our local Morrisons, just not enough, and they’re frequently distracted

hate asking for carrier bags obviously, but my life is simply too chaotic for this situation not to come up every few months.

All the self service tills (which is pretty much all the tolls now) at my local big Sainsburys have put a fence round them, so you can’t leave until you’ve got a paper receipt (remember them?) then scanned it to open the barrier so you can get out.
